National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) reminds pharmacists to properly dispose of empty COVID-19 vaccine vials The NABP report that criminals abroad are filling empty COVID-19 vaccine vials with clear fluid and reselling them online as counterfeit vaccines. Proper disposal of these vials after use can help to prevent these fraudulent scams from occurring. COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen do not contain hazardous components and may be disposed of... in a pharmaceutical waste container, or a commingled pharmaceutical/Sharps waste container. The State of California through Cal OES & FEMA to Open Two Mass Community Vaccination Sites on Feb. 16 Through a pilot partnership with the Biden Administration, two mass community vaccination sites will be set up at Oakland-Alameda Coliseum in Northern California and California State University, Los Angeles in Southern California. These two sites are intended to help distribute vaccines to areas in the state that are considered to have the most diverse and socioeconomically ...challenged communities. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of California through the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) will co-run the sites together. FEMA and the State of California will coordinate closely to make sure the vaccine doses administered at the two sites will not affect the available vaccine supply at other sites in Alameda and Los Angeles counties. FEMA will deploy active duty service members as part of the vaccination staff, medical personnel, and support staff. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians serving as members of the "uniformed services" may be part of this joint effort. Appointments for eligible members of the public at the two community vaccination sites will be coordinated through MyTurn (https://myturn.ca.gov/). The two sites have an anticipated opening beginning February 16. Establishing the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum and California State University, Los Angeles pilot mass vaccination sites are part of the Biden Administration’s plan for 100 vaccination sites nationwide within the first 100 days in office.
