2020 has already been a dynamic year already. I am so greatful to be working with Huntington Christian School towards some real ecological regeneration on campus. We will be implementing a food forest, multiple rain water harvesting techniques, a school wide composting system and an area dedicated to the pollinators full of native plants. I will also be visiting the school twice a month teaching The Eco-literacy Program to elementary and middle school students.The parents and... administrators here deserve to be acknowledged for ther dedication to sustainability and passing on these earth care practices and principles to the next generation. Birthday perma-party was a success. The surf definitely showed up too. Our goal for the day was to implement some earthworks on this slope to rehydrate the landscape. So far this year, the run off here has been flowing quickly down slope and causing property damage during rain events. Hearts and hands came together to turn this problem into a solution! The earthworks we constructed will slow the runoff and soak it into the ground over a larger area. An assortment of trees and... shrubs will be plant on the slope to use all of the extra water retained and prevent more erosion in the future. So greatful for everyone who came to support. Integrated Pest Management My students know this pile of rock as a lizard castle . By mounding these stones in a sunny spot of the food forest we have created lizard habitat! Now, our lizard friends can lounge on the warm rocks, hide in the crevasses for safety and venture into the plants to find food.
