She's able to read from left to right, recognize her sight words in sentences, and use the picture to help her read unknown words. Why is phonics so important? Over 80% of the words in the English language can be decoded/sounded out using phonics. So a strong phonics background really helps young readers successfully decode unknown words. It's so fun to watch children have independent imaginative play. A lot of the time it helps us to see what they are taking in from the world around them. Here Ocean is compassionately consoling her baby and reminding her to take deep breaths in order to calm down.
