As the school year and garden classes come to an end, we wanted the students to have something from the gardens to take home. This is what we did with students on the last week of garden classes: GRASS HEADS! STEP 1: draw a face on your cup (or "grass head") STEP 2: add soil ... STEP 3: add grass seeds (we used oat seeds, a great cover crop) STEP 4: cover with more soil STEP 5: water your seeds STEP 6: watch the grass (or hair) GROW! Thank you to the Dolores parent who sent us these pictures of their daughters' grass heads at home! They sure grew a lot! MSTFP is always excited to receive pictures from parents of their children's garden projects! Thank you to all the students, parents, and educators who made this school year a great one! We can't wait for garden classes to resume again in the fall! If your child can't wait until fall for garden classes, consider registering them for our summer program at mstfpkids.org/summer-programming #mstfp #gardeneducation

DID YOU KNOW? Worms have 5 hearts! Earthworms can dig down into the earth as far as 18 feet. Worms don't have eyes, ears, a nose, or teeth! Worms are hermaphrodites; meaning they are both male and female at the same time. ... Students can learn more about these fascinating critters and how they help the garden during our Worm Week of summer programming at Manaugh Elementary June 14-17! Scholarships are still available and application is highly suggested! For more info, registration, and payment, please visit mstfpkids.org/summer-programming #mstfp #gardeneducation #summer2021

hey y'all, E X C I T I N G news! Week 2 of our summer program for Manaugh is now Worm Week! Ms. Annie, our worm expert this year, kept worm bins in her home all winter and brought them to the gardens in the spring for students to learn about these awesome critters, and they were a BIG HIT! Students loved them! Any time we played with soil, even non-worm related, students would say funny things like "this soil is worm poop!" (remembering that worm feces fertilizes the soil)... or "soil is a worm's home!" One student even picked up a worm in the sun, and remembering what she learned in class, put the worm in the soil and said "worms don't like the sun!" We hope this change will grab students' and parents' attention more for this week, making for a more engaging time! Additionally, parents were asking of what activities we'll be performing with students for summer, and we compiled a list here! These are only some examples and not a full list of our schedule. Don't forget, registration deadlines have been pushed back so parents have more time to sign up their child! Registration deadlines, program dates, payment, and all other info can be found at https://www.mstfpkids.org/summer-programming Please message us with any questions you have! #mstfp #worms #gardeneducation
