THANK YOU | GRAZIE Our new series In Conversation With featuring Italian and Italian American artists started off with two great talks. On Sunday, March 28th Milan-based artist Giovanni Cerri joined us for a conversation in Italian on how the pandemic affected his art, and what he has in store for his exhibition at the Museo in the Fall. On Sunday, April 25th Italian American painter Lar Landa was in conversation with Sheila Pierce Ortona discussing his lifelong career a...s an artist and sculptor. He also explained how his inspiration in the human figure is the most direct way of expressing human emotions and condition, and how his art evokes communication between the artist and the viewer. Grazie, Giovanni and Lar, for being part of this special series and for sharing your art and inspiration with all of us!

The Museo Italo Americano is proud to be part of an art project by Italian painter Giovanni Cerri that resulted in the exhibit Diario della Pandemia and that will take place in Comabbio (Varese, Italy) from October 10th to November 1st, 2020. The pen and paper drawings that will be showcased in the exhibit are part of a body of work that will be displayed at a dedicated show at the Museo in the Fall of 2021. In the exhibit catalogue, Giovanni describes the evolution of the ...project as follows: I developed my research of the epidemic as a wider issue, making the situation we are living in coincide with historical memory of similar events that had already happened. With a certain veracity, since I had time on my hands, I searched for sources, news, literary elements and images from the past. The plague of contagion is an agony that has always afflicted humanity. Isolation, quarantine, distance, pain and suffering, death that comes and takes everyone away. In these drawings, mostly done at home, I fixed sensations and emotions in images: the emptiness and silence of the deserted city as I’d never seen it before, homage to art works which like us were locked in museums, literary quotes that told of similar events to what we are experiencing.
