Henri Rousseau is an Art Muse.

Henri Rousseau was born May 21, 1844, France. He was ridiculed during much of his lifetime for painting in a primitive manner, but eventually, with the favor of Pablo Picasso, he was considered a self-taught genius. His best-known works depict jungle scenes inspired by illustrated books and the botanical gardens in Paris. The artist never visited an actual jungle. Much like Rousseau, I am self taught. Inspired by the movie Pollock, I set out to learn as much as possible ...about the lives of important artists. In 2005, I began writing my own curriculum to share with elementary school students. I was extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to pilot that program at Circle View Elementary School in Huntington Beach, the following year, and the rest is history. I owe much gratitude to the then third grade teachers and principal for giving me a stream of incredible students to share my passion with ever since.
