The BAERG FAMILY LEGACY bench is presented as a gift from Donna J. Baerg Entze in honor of her family’s combined years of ‘Making a Difference’ in the lives of students at Monterey Bay Academy. Having parents who dedicated their lives to teaching she saw firsthand the impact a teacher can make on a student. Over the years countless stories have been shared by former students regarding that impact. When Donna made the decision to go into teaching, she also experienced those c...onnections with students in the classroom, on music tours, coaching, and mentoring. Both her grandfather and sister had the privilege of also serving and giving to MBA. Her desire is that this bench will serve as a reminder to all to continue to "Make A Difference" in the lives of those we come in contact with, interact with, and have the privilege of teaching, coaching, mentoring, and building friendships with. Never forget the impact that you can make in people's lives.

Dear Alumni and Friends of MBA, Many of you have been asking about the status of the investigation of Beach Auditorium fire that happened during the summer on July 18. Here is an official update. Jay Ketelsen '76, MBA's VP of Operations has been the official point person who has communicated with Cal Fire regarding the fire. He also oversees all our campus operations such as rentals, businesses that lease space from the school, all county correspondence concerning use permits..., water testing, and much more. According to the official report Jay recently received from Cal Fire, the cause of the beach auditorium fire is inconclusive as the building was so completely burned the investigators were unable to find a starting point of the fire or any evidence of what caused it. There have been comments and opinions made on Social Media regarding the cause, however, nothing can be proven at this point in time. With that said, it is important to mention that there was no electricity or gas going to the building, nor was the building insured. Unfortunately, four years ago Adventist Risk Management, the insurance company for the Central California Conference (and MBA), refused coverage on the building due to the age and state of deterioration the auditorium was in. So, there is no insurance to collect and as a result, there are no plans at this time to rebuild. We will, however, maintain the footprint of the site. Once the debris has been cleaned up the cement "pit" will still be there with the possibility of using it as an outdoor amphitheater area. The loss of the Beach Auditorium is, without a doubt, a very sad event for MBA. A lot of history, both for MBA and the military was destroyed when it burned. While we can not afford to replace the building and as devastating as it is to lose this landmark on campus, I am constantly reminded that this world is not our home, we are just passing through, but we will always treasure the memories and good times we shared together in that grand building. Sending you all love from our home on the shore, Kinzie Speyer '76 Director of Alumni & Development
