Fr. Matt's Message Week of November 8, 2020 While the season of Advent is three weeks away, our Scripture readings at this time of year begin to give hints of the themes that Advent will proclaim. One of those themes is preparedness. The parable of the ten bridesmaids is an example of being prepared for the Second Coming of Christ. We could read this parable about being ready for our death, but is also good to read it as a reminder that the Lord moves in our life at all time...s and we do well to be attentive to his grace that nourishes our daily lives. The image of the burning lamps of the ten bridesmaids invites us to ponder the Light of Christ we received in baptism. If we were baptized as infants, our parents and godparents we told, "Receive the Light of Christ. This light is entrusted to you to be kept burning brightly. This child of yours has been enlightened by Christ. They are to walk always as a child of light. May they keep the flame of faith alive in their heart. When the Lord comes, may they go out to meet him with all the Saints in the heavenly kingdom." (Rite of Baptism for Children 100). As we grow, whether we were baptized as infants or as adults, the responsibility to keep the flame of faith alive more and more to each of us. We are always to remember that we are children of the light and to nourish the flame we received at baptism so it will burn brightly until we go from this life into life eternal. We keep many small votive lights burning alongside the images of our beloved dead. Many such photographs and mementos of our loved ones who have gone before us are currently have transformed our sanctuary into a beautiful and living memorial. If you are not local and would like to add any photos to be placed in the church, please email them to us at [email protected]. November is the "Month of All Souls" and we do well to remember, in a very special way our loved ones who have gone before us. Stay safe, take care, and be well! With love and prayers, Fr. Matt Weekend Mass Schedule: 5pm Saturday 8am, 10am & 6:30pm Sunday Please visit www.mhr.org to reserve seats.

Preserve in the midst of your people, we ask, O Lord, the spirit with which you filled the Bishop Saint Charles Borromeo, that your Church may be constantly renewed and, by conforming herself to the likeness of Christ, may show his face to the world. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Saint Charles Borromeo, pray for us.

Saint Martin de Porres Saint Martin experienced the exclusion, derision, and discrimination of racism. Instead of growing bitter, he used his experience to reach out and comfort others. Martin’s unwavering love of God and devotion to the Passion sustained him in his charitable works that often went unacknowledged. Who are the people that you exclude from your life or keep at a distance? Reflect on the subtle, or not so subtle, ways you discriminate against people who are diff...erent from you. Listen for how God might be calling you to a greater inclusion of others. Patron Saint of Social Justice; African-Americans; bi-racial people; inter-racial justice; mixed-race people; mulattoes; paupers; Peru; poor people; public education; public health; public schools; race relations; racial harmony; social justice; state schools; television. O God, who led Saint Martin de Porres by the path of humility to heavenly glory, grant that we may so follow his radiant example in this life as to merit to be exalted with him in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
