We will start cleanup at 8:00AM tomorrow, Saturday and go until noon. We look forward to seeing you out there with us!!! Come see what we’ve done and hear what plans we have for the future. If you come, bring gloves and wear closed toe shoes for safety. Together, we will make a huge dent in this cleanup effort.

Today I decided to take my lunch down to the sand plant and take It all in. The Beale VMP crew was back out helping with vegetation removal. I had a moment of enjoyment when I watched a family walk over the levee and down to the water where they explored the rivers edge. I caught up with them and had a conversation to find out they were visiting from a neighboring community. They really enjoyed the opportunity to explore the natural resource and felt safe while doing so. Next, I watched a boat drift down the river quietly while fishing. It was a great opportunity to stop and enjoy the moment while recognizing the progress we have made in a short period of time. A transformation has begun!!! Thank you to all the stakeholders who have participated in creating change in our community.

As the dry conditions come to an end, the Marysville Fire Department has been undertaking vegetation management opportunities around the community prior to the rainy season setting in. A vegetation management team from Beale Air Force Base was here last week with equipment and staffing to assist us in and around the city cemetery area in removing heavy vegetation.

Having Fireman with extra extraordinary talents really helps with multi tasking. We have Firefighters that can operate heavy equipment and they spent the day working in Hollywood Trailer Park today utilizing backhoe tractors. Work continues with clean up and filling in underground bunkers. We continue to masticate brush and make it less of a hiding space for encampments. The area is blocked off to vehicle access and patrol checks the area frequently for new squatters. We appreciate all the support with cleanup efforts as we continue to take back Hollywood Trailer Park and make it a pleasant place along the River for people to enjoy.

The Marysville Fire Department conducted control burns yesterday in the Thorn Tree area off of 14th Street to remove thick vegetation. Even though fire season is coming to closure, we are still taking advantage of the favorable weather conditions to improve our Vegetation Management Program.

The next couple of days are critical Red Flag days with high north winds and low humidity. Fuels are at record lows and critically dry. Any spark will ignite a fast moving wildfire. Take precautions and do your part to prevent a fire from starting. Watch this link below for more information. The Marysville Fire Department has brought additional staffing on for the next two days to increase our responses to any new fire. https://twitter.com/CAL_/status/1320052428788494336/video/1

Today 10/13/20 the Marysville Fire Department will be burning levee’s near Simpson Lane and 10th street to remove dry vegetation and reduce the potential for rapid spread fires during wind events. Clearing the levee of vegetation is also required for state levee inspections. Yesterday the Fire Department burned sections near 2nd Street to the E Street bridge. The next few days high north winds are expected through the northern region. We ask that you stay vigilant during this time to help prevent fires from starting.

Crews returned from the fires in Butte County and within a few days were deployed once again. The Marysville Fire Department has an engine with crew at the Zogg Fire in Shasta County and a department member serving in an overhead position at the Glass Fire in Lake Napa. The fire in Shasta County has moderated and crews assist with mop up and patrol activities including assisting civilians who will be let back into their homes throughout the burned area. Smoke in the region continues to linger and is mostly due to the Lake Napa and August Complex fires. Firefighters continue to work tirelessly to extinguish these fires. Significant concerns exist with more wind expected into this Fall. Fire season still could run through the month of October and even farther if there is no significant rain to end the season.

Recently the Marysville Fire Department applied for a Cal Water grant for fire equipment. The Department had a desperate need to replace old and worn out fire hose. Cal Water awarded $30,000.00 to the Marysville Fire Department to purchase new fire hose. This was great timing with the arrival of our new engine. This grant will assure that the firefighters have the tools they need and have confidence their equipment won’t fail. Thank you to the local Cal Water staff that assisted with Marysville being successful in this grant opportunity!!! Another great partnership.

A big thank you to Pepsi out of Yuba City who delivered two pallets of water to the Silver Dollar fairgrounds in Chico in support of the fires burning in the Oroville area. Thank you to everyone that came to the Engine Push In ceremony yesterday. The Marysville Fire Department appreciates the support in purchasing a new front line engine and helping celebrate this moment. Engine 211 officially went into service yesterday and will be a great addition for our Firefighters. A special thanks to our previous City Manager, City Staff, Council and Fire Department Staff in making this a reality. Feel free to stop by the fire station to see this beautiful Pierce engine.

Crews at the North Complex West Zone in Butte County continue to engage the fire. There are several miles of fire line and crews continue to protect structures and create containment lines. Crews have been released from the Willow Fire in the Oregon House area. The fire off Highway 20 and Powell Road in the Hallwood area has been contained. Crews will continue to monitor that situation over the next several days. A fire watch has been issued starting this afternoon and will last until Wednesday. Strong South/West winds 18-20mph are possible with dry conditions across the region. We ask the public to be vigilant in helping prevent fires during these extreme conditions.

The Marysville crew is still engaged in Winters supporting the efforts to battle the LNU Lightning Complex. Crews took time out to enjoy a hot meal by local families taking care of our people. The devistation is immense through this area and Marysville will stay engaged to support this operation. Another round of Thunderstorms are predicted to impact the region once again over the next few days.

This last Wednesday the Marysville Fire Department sent an engine to Winters to support the Berryessa fire, part of the LNU Lightning Complex. The area surrounding Winters was extremely impacted with no resources available and lots of structures lost. With all the fires in California has created drawdown for fire resources. We support our neighbors during disaster scenarios even when they are a couple counties away. We also have resources in Chico managing the Butte and Tehama/Glenn county fires. The fire siege is the most extreme anyone has seen in California and there doesn’t seem to be much relief in sight.

Yesterday the Marysville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Silva Lane just outside Marysville. Crews arrived on scene to find a well involved structure which was comprised of multiple attached garages with an attached two story residence. The structure was completely destroyed before being brought under control. Mutual aid from several Yuba and Sutter County Agencies responded to fight the fire. The lack of adequate water to extinguish the fire created a challenge in extinguishing the fire. The fire took approximately 1 1/2 hours to bring under control. There were no injuries and the fire is under investigation.
