MarBorg Industries wishes you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! Our offices and facilities are closed Thursday, November 25th in observance of the holiday. Today is Veterans Day, and we are honoring all those who served. Thank you for your service! Please note that this week and next week are normal service weeks for MarBorg, and our offices/facilities remain open today.
One of the best parts of #Thanksgiving is the delicious food, but this holiday tends to be extremely wasteful. Each year on Thanksgiving, Americans throw out an estimated: 200 million pounds of turkey 40 millions pounds of mashed potatoes 30 million pounds of stuffing But, with a little bit of planning, you can avoid buying, cooking, and #wasting too much food! Create a shopping list appropriate for the number of guests, buy only what you need, and strategize what to do with leftovers...and give thanks to the planet!
Rotting #pumpkins get a second life when composted. Pumpkins are great for your #compost, and you might even grow a new one from the seeds! Our green waste grinders are not equipped to mulch pumpkins, so please do not throw them in your green container.
Happy Labor Day! MarBorg Industries' offices and facilities will be closed on Monday (9/6) in observance of the holiday, but we will resume regular operations Tuesday (9/7). Please visit our website for more information about service schedule changes.

Coming soon to the ballot!
Did you know that we accept Styrofoam that BENDS and SNAPS at our drop off centers? Clean Styrofoam is recycled in Ontario, CA and kept out of the landfill! You can drop off clean Styrofoam at our Goleta (20 David Love Pl.) or downtown (132 Nopalitos Way) locations. NO packing peanuts, Styrofoam that held food, or Styrofoam that bends but doesn't snap allowed.
Join us for interview day! #worthwhilejobs

Keep your #pumpkins out of the grave and give them a 2nd chance at life! Compost pumpkins at home and turn those jack-o-lanterns into nutrient-rich soil. If you don't have access to a compost bin, please keep pumpkins OUT of your green waste - they'll need to go in the trash.
For all the procrastinator carvers out there who still have pumpkin seeds to enjoy: try one of these yummy seasonings and don't let those seeds go to #waste! Are you more of a salty , spicy , or sweet fan?
A recent survey showed that half of all Californians believe it's OK to put plastic bags (and other film plastics) in the recycling container. This is NOT true. Plastic bags and other film plastics (plastics that easily crumple in your hand) must be placed in your trash container. If you are recycling right, and your material is CLEAN and DRY, you should NOT need to use a plastic bag.
We are obsessed with this Dumpster Sofa created by the talented Joanna "Bea" Shultz of Bea Furnishings. Who knew a dumpster could be so beautiful? Check out an appearance by MarBorg's very own Willie Glover too! @sbindependent https://www.independent.com//bea-furnishings-and-the-divi/
Go big or gourd home this #Halloween and reuse your pumpkin! Carve out some time to read 19 ways to repurpose that beautiful squash: https://www.treehugger.com/ways-reuse-your-halloween-pumpki
"The first benchmark is to reach 15% recycled content by 2022, on the way to a 50% requirement by 2030." This is a huge step for California and holding plastic manufacturers (somewhat) accountable! Next step, pass the #circulareconomy bill! #recycling #waste #sustainability
You've heard of fog, but have you heard of FOG? FOG stands for fats, oils, and grease (including dairy products and salad dressing). FOG should NOT be poured down your sink or garbage disposal - it can cause major plumbing issues! You can dispose of FOG in your trash with these simple tips: Pour cooled grease into disposable container with lid, freeze, then place container in trash Mix cooking oils with absorbent material (ie. coffee grounds, cat litter), place in tight l...idded container, place container in trash Wipe excess fat and grease from pan using a paper towel, place paper towel in trash See more
Did you know that these 3 items can NOT be placed in your recycling container? Styrofoam Textiles Wood ... While Styrofoam and textiles can be recycled, they must be taken to a drop off location. Small amounts of wood can be placed in the trash.
Have you seen our interactive "How do I dispose of...?" guide? Take a few minutes to learn how to dispose of common items (and why). It's mobile friendly too! https://www.marborg.com/links/2423-how-do-i-dispose-of
Friendly reminder that real live people actually service your trash and recycling containers. Please be considerate when placing items out for collection, especially in shared spaces. Overloading, as depicted here, prevents drivers from doing their jobs safely and effectively. Give us a call, or speak with your property manager, if your containers are regularly overflowing. We can adjust the service and better serve your neighborhood.
Are you cooking and eating at home more than ever before? Try your hand at #composting to turn food scraps into nutrient rich soil. Composting is a great activity for the entire family, especially kids! Some benefits include: Hands on #science experimentation Learn to care for worms and insects Spend time outside ... Keep food out of the landfill Contact us to order your very own backyard compost bin, or visit County of SB's lessismore.org/compost to learn more.
Today we sent our first load of #textiles to be #recycled! We loaded 36 bales into this truck for a total weight of 46,080 lbs (23.04 tons)! These textiles will be recovered as clothing, wiping rags, stuffing for furniture, carpet padding, and sound proofing for automobiles. Textiles take ~200 years to break down in landfills, so we are excited to give this material a second life!
ICYMI: the recording of Community Environmental Council (CEC)'s webinar on #recycling plastics is now up. Lots of topics and Q&As discussed - you don't want to miss this!
