COVID-19 vaccines are starting to roll out across southern California, but it may be some time before children can get vaccinated. High risk groups of people will have first access to the vaccine, including frontline workers like doctors and nurses in hospitals and elderly people in nursing homes. As soon as we have information about the COVID vaccine for kids, we will share the news with our CPCMG families. #COVID19

The number one cause of death for teens and young adults? Accidental injuries and many of them can be prevented, like head injuries from falls off bicycles, skateboards and scooters. Dr. Kamei Tolba at CPCMG Encinitas has a good point for teens who won’t wear a helmet. He’ll ask to see their cell phone and point out that if the cell phone gets a protective case, they may want to give their brain the same respect. #helmets

CPCMG pediatrician Dr. Annalisa Abjelina really picked a good one for today’s #fridayfunny: A little boy came in with a long-lasting nosebleed. His parents were concerned as he had been getting them a lot. This last nosebleed happened even though the parents followed doctor instructions to use petroleum jelly in the nostrils every day and use nasal saline spray to keep the nostrils moist. The doctor had learned not to ask kids IF they picked their nose but instead WHICH fi...nger they used. But this boy didn’t want to answer the question. Finally, he proudly answered that he used ALL of them, showing the doctor exactly what he meant by sticking each of his 10 fingers in his nose one at a time! He was prescribed some allergy medications that night and learned how to properly clean his nose with tissue. Case solved! For more information on nosebleeds, check out the CPCMG blog: https://www.cpcmg.net/nosebleeds-what-you-need-to-know/
