The festival of Navarathri is celebrated in the bright half of the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin, which typically falls in the Gregorian months of September or October every year. Navrathri literally means 'nine nights' in Sanskrit; Nava - Nine and Ratri - nights. During these nine nights and ten days, the three forms of the goddess -Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi - are invoked. In some parts of India, the nine days and nights are associated with the Nine Avatars of Durga ...or NavaDurga- the different incarnations of the Devi- the Divine Feminine. In the eastern and northeastern states of India, the Durga Puja is synonymous with Navratri, wherein goddess Durga battles and emerges victorious over the buffalo demon Mahishasura to help restore Dharma. In the northern and western states, the festival is synonymous with "Rama Lila" and Dussehra that celebrates the battle and victory of Shri Ram over the demon king Ravana, and of course the Garba that originated in Gujarat, but is now synonymous with Navarathri celebrations across the world. In southern states, apart from Utsavams in temples, Golu - a festive display of dolls and figurines is celebrated in most homes. In all cases, the common theme is the battle and victory of Good over Evil ,based on a regionally famous epic or legend such as the Ramayana or the Devi Mahatmya. Sadhakas observe these nine days by fasting and performing daily rituals, spiritual practices and worshipping Shakti in Her varied manifestations.. The theme of the entire Vedas is reflected in the Navarathri festival: Purify the mind and remove all negativities; cultivate positive virtues; gain spiritual knowledge and transcend limitations. This is the real victory we should aspire to. Mandir wishes all Devotees and Patrons a very Shubh Navaratri
