***Hospital Updates*** We will be closed Halloween, Oct. 31st to allow our team a much needed full weekend off. We have remained super busy over the last few months. Our team has been working ridiculously hard though the pandemic, we have several team members out on maternity leave, and we have added a new doctor! Our staff stays late and works overtime when needed to ensure we meet the needs of all of our furry and feathered patients. ... In other news... We have received our new fall Pet Odor Eliminator Candles. If you are interested in taking a sniff and purchasing some, pleasese stop by. Call the front office when you arrive and we will let you in when the lobby has a low number of people. We are in the process of installing two benches outside under the trees in the grassy area for convenient, safe waiting.

Hands full of puppies - the best part of the job! If you have a new puppy please remember to vaccinate! We have very affordable Puppy Plans to help. We have seen many parvo cases in the last two months and the current strain going around is resulting in about a 40% fatality rate. Parvo is nearly 100% preventable with appropriate vaccination.

The vast majority of our patients are dogs and cats but both Dr. Dougherty and Dr. Lane see other small mammals as well. Last Friday was a fun day for Dr. D. Two guinea pig neuters and a bunny ear amputation for a cancerous mass. So much cuteness!!!

Hello Friends! Thank you all for your unwavering support. The protesters left after Monday but told someone they will be back Saturday. Hopefully this demonstration of love by our clients will keep them away. Now for some heartwarming news! We have an in house Angel Fund that we use to help clients in extreme need and for homeless animals with urgent needs. We were recently able to use these funds to assist an owner in dire financial straits afford lifesaving surger...y for his dog with a pyometra (severely infected, pus filled uterus.) Both Precious and her owner were so sweet. She came to us very ill and had to have immediate surgery to save her life. With the help of the Angel Fund covering about 60% of the surgery costs, Dr. Franz and Dr. Lane were able to save her life. We were also able to use Angel Funds to help house some kitties for a family who were under evacuation orders. Again, we thank everyone for your kindness. The team has really felt the love and appreciation. If you would like to contribute to the Angel Fund, you can leave a donation when you are in with your pets or send us a donation in the mail notating it is for the MVC Angel fund. (If you use a check, make it out to MVC with Angel Fund in the Notation field) Dr. Monica Dougherty

Hello friends of MVC! We fired these clients for rude and abusive behavior towards our staff. Now they are "protesting" in front of our clinic. Who does that? People we don't want as clients, that's who. Come out and show your support for us!

On this Labor Day weekend, we want to take a moment to recognize our hard-working staff and address an issue that has begun to permeate the service industry in these times of great uncertainty. We have seen an increase in discourteous and uncivil behavior, as well as comments and complaints about the protocols that businesses must enact to keep their teams safe. The vast majority of our clients are courteous and understanding. They see and appreciate how hard our excelle...nt team members work and understand that there may be wait times or that they have to wait outside or have to wear a mask. So, we thank our MVC team. We will not allow any team member to be the subject of rude behavior or verbal abuse. We know that things are difficult and stressful so we ask everyone to be kind and understanding. If you have had a great experience with our staff give a shout out below! See more

A reminder of why it is important to have your dog and cat vaccinated against rabies. We can also do dog licenses for the city of Madera at the time of vaccination for a small fee so you don’t need to go to the police department. Call us today at 559-675-3044 to schedule an appointment. https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article245046265.html

Dr. Lane loves meeting new puppy patients! This is Bambino. He was in for a puppy plan visit. We have been seeing a ton of parvo this season. If you have a new puppy (or kitten) please give us a call so we can start them off right with a Puppy or Kitten plan. Also - we thank all our clients for their understanding with wait times and curbside check in. We are doing our best to keep our clients and team safe during the pandemic.

I still remember the day about 12 years ago when I was a young veterinarian in Turlock and met 16-year-old Loretta Lane in an exam room with her mom and two cats. She was so engaged and interested in her pet’s care that I offered her a volunteer job shadow position at the clinic I was working at. Soon she was offered a paying job and has been enthusiastically pursing veterinary medicine ever since. I have had the pleasure of mentoring her over the years, and even offered h...er a position during her school breaks at Madera Veterinary Center. It is with tremendous pride, joy and excitement that I introduce our newest doctor at Madera Veterinary Center: Dr. Loretta Lane DVM. Dr. Lane brings with her the latest teachings and a fierce enthusiasm for general practice medicine. She has experience with wildlife and has many, many hours of in clinic experience serving the Central Valley. With the addition of Dr. Lane, we will be a 4-doctor team, with improved availability, a wider array of interests and an infusion of new knowledge and ideas. We know our wonderful family of clients and critters will welcome Dr. Lane with as much enthusiasm as the MVC team already has! Dr. Monica Dougherty DVM Madera Veterinary Center, owner

We will be closing daily between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. This will allow us time to clean and sanitize the clinic for our client’s and staff’s wellbeing. Our phones will go directly to voicemail during this time, but if you leave us a message we will call you back once we reopen. Thank you for your understanding and support.

A message for my amazing team and for our wonderful family of MVC clients and their pets I want to take a moment to recognize the team of amazing individuals working tirelessly to keep Madera Veterinary Center running during this unprecedented crisis. The entire crew is still coming to work ready to help our community of clients and pets. No one complained when we INCREASED our availability while other area veterinary hospitals have reduced hours or even closed. We all ...share a mission to be there when your furry or feathered family needs us. Last month, on top of our regular case load, we saw over 40 new clients who couldn’t get in with their regular vets. I am so proud of our team for their caring natures and their ability to handle stress, short lunches, and new safety measures all while trying to provide great customer service in this strange new reality. We may run late sometimes, we may seem a bit harried, we may even make a little mistake or two, but we are all devoted to our calling of helping animals. In appreciate of my hard-working team, I have instituted hazard pay and try to bring in lunch at least once a week. I also want to give a heartfelt thanks to our understanding, wonderful clients who have taken our safety changes in stride, are understanding of wait times, and who continue to prioritize their pet’s medical needs. We anticipate allowing one person per appointment back into exam rooms by the end of the month. There will still be no waiting in the lobby allowed. We will ask that you wear a mask. We will still provide curbside and drop off appointments long term for those who prefer maximum social distance. ****I ask for shout outs in the comments below for the whole team or an individual you had a great experience with. Share your happy stories of the crew and your pet!!*** Lastly, I want to give a special shout out to someone else who works tirelessly behind the scenes. My husband Steve Dougherty. I may be the face of the practice, but my partner is the glue that keeps it all together. Steve is the bookkeeper, the HR department, the accountant, the bill payer, and the financial guru that keeps the lights on. He is the shoulder to cry on when something goes wrong. He is the one that gives me the strength I need to be the best veterinarian I can be, allowing me to focus on patients and clients while he does the boring stuff. He does this while working his OTHER job AND now home schooling our two kids. Much love to everyone out there. Stay safe. Stay kind. Be strong. Things will get better. Dr. Monica Dougherty DVM Owner of Madera Veterinary Center P.S. If you ever feel moved to help the team and to support locally businesses, we gladly accept restaurant gift cards!
