If you're interested in applying for the La Verne Fire Chief position we've prepared a list of documents that will educate you about the current situation in La Verne. It is far worse here than the city hints at in their application. La Verne Firefighters support the move to Los Angeles County Fire Department. We highly recommend reading the 52-page Messina Report. We also encourage you to reach out to the La Verne Firefighters' Association and speak with us. We can email you this document as well if you send us your email address. https://lavernefire.blogspot.com//fire-chief-position-info

My name is Andy Glaze and I am the La Verne Firefighters' Association president. Today, I would like to highlight the speech that Battalion Chief Robert Russell made at the council meeting on Monday, March 15th, 2021. Chief Russell is not part of our union. He is speaking from his many years of experience as a La Verne Fire Chief. Due to the nature of zoom/phone call council meetings, I will read the speech he gave and if you are interested in hearing him speak I would encour...Continue reading

Last night at the La Verne Council meeting the president of the La Verne Firefighters' Association spoke in regards to the city council's decision to put Politics before Safety. Your La Verne Firefighters will not ignore Safety. We will continue to make it our #1 priority. It wasn’t long ago that we did a vote of no confidence on our Fire Chief, Pete Jankowski, over our safety concerns. That turned into a lawsuit and cost the City of La Verne 5.5 million. Oh how quickly this city council forgets the lessons of history.

Have you seen our new sign at Fire Station #1? It is an incredible piece of custom work. Sam Dominick, III, the son of La Verne Fire Captain Sam Dominick, Jr. completed his Eagle Scout Project today. After identifying a need, Sam, (with the help of Rusty at Twisted Images) created a sign for Fire Station 1. His team of family and fellow scouts built the sign, cemented it into the ground, added drought-tolerant drought tolerant shrubs, and put in solar lighting in the Mike S...haw rock garden in the front of the fire station. Sam began working on his Eagle Project in the Spring, but due to Covid restrictions, he had to postpone the completion several times. Sam created his plan, met with the Fire Chief, had the plan approved by the Boy Scout Council, designed the sign, held fundraising activities which included donations from several businesses and the La Verne Firefighters Association, coordinated all of the work to be done, and lead his fellow Scouts and family in carrying out the final project. Now, he must complete and submit his final project plan for approval and undergo an Eagle Board of Review to earn his Eagle Scout Rank. When he does, he will join his grandpa, dad and uncle as a third-generation Eagle Scout. Thank you Sam for all your hard work and dedication. We are very proud of your accomplishments. We love the sign.

Hello, La Verne, my name is Kevin Wilton and I am a Captain at the La Verne Fire Department. I have been a citizen of La Verne for 48 years. I love our city. Today is the last day to send an e-mail requesting a Phase 2 feasibility study. I not only support getting this study but want it as a citizen. Please email [email protected] And let the city council know you want them to vote for a feasibility study. Many of you know me or my family personally, pleas...e reach out if you have questions. I was born and raised in the city. I played sports in the city and went through the Bonita Unified School District and graduated from Bonita High School. Currently, I am one of the only two firefighters that live in the city that we serve. I love this city and community. I chose this area to be my home and raise my family. La Verne Fire Department was a great place to work years ago. The city had the potential to make great things happen here and took pride and ownership of their employees. But unfortunately, things turned south with the economic crisis around 2008. We have not been able to climb back into a positive side even with all the economic prosperity in the past years. We made sacrifices for years so that the burden was not put on the citizens. For instance, we sacrificed vacation days for six months and deferred the cost of living to help the city weather the storm. The city has run out of room to expand except to grow vertically. Growing vertically requires more firefighters and more fire apparatus. When the city was growing the fire department was not. I am a person that is loyal, trustworthy, and friendly. I work hard for everything that I want and to protect. Unfortunately, we as a city can’t protect the citizens as much as we have in the past. Things were promised but never kept. The citizens deserve more. As a citizen of La Verne and a La Verne firefighter for 28 years I believe wholeheartedly we need to ask the city to do the Second Phase of the County Survey. Doing so, we will be able to reflect on the options that are in front of us in more of a detailed format and together find the right path for the city of La Verne. I Support a Phase 2 study. Today is the last day to send an e-mail. Please email [email protected] And let the city council know you want them to vote for a feasibility study. Thank you for your time, Captain Kevin Wilton

2 more days to send your e-mail. What do your La Verne Firefighters want? The City Council recently commissioned a study on the future of the city's fire delivery model. Citizens have had a month to send feedback.... Your Firefighters sat down and discussed the Fire Department's future with Councilmembers Crosby, Davis and Lau. We had very productive conversations. The Council has asked that we work together to find a model that provides the best service and safety for the citizens of La Verne. We have received many messages asking, "What do the Firefighters want?" Your La Verne Firefighters WANT the city council to vote for phase 2 of the LaCoFD Feasibility Study. The study will provide the Citizens, the City Council and your Firefighters more information on our options. If you want to support what your La Verne Firefighters want then please email [email protected] And let the city council know you want them to vote for a feasibility study. This is not a vote to "Go County" but a vote for more information. You have until the 9/28 (Monday) to send your e-mail. Thank you.
