Here are some World Lemur Day photos from La Marmaille school in Mangily, Madagascar. Students mom's pitched in to help clean up the community, and the kids had a special day of lemur-themed content, including readings of the TikTik book (Thanks to Lemur Conservation Foundation for helping us get these to the school in 2019!) YOUR support allowed us to get 110 children enrolled for this school year and set up an emergency loan program wherein students mom's can apply for aid... for food, medicine, or any other urgent need. Humanitarian aid is an important aspect of biodiversity conservation. THANK YOU for your continued support <3 #LemurLove

On Featured Woman Wednesday, we take the time to highlight the work and passion of a true lemur lover! My name is Manoa Faliarivola, I am an ornithologist in Madagascar. I am currently preparing a postdoc project. I studied natural sciences at the University of Antananarivo and I integrated the courses of Animal Conservation Biology within the former department of animal biology in 2013. I had my Master degree in 2016 with a specialization in ornithology and I had the oppo...rtunity to pursue a doctorate with the same specialization. I defended my PhD at the beginning of October this year. I intend to continue scientific research in this area as long as possible. Although an ornithologist, and I don't call it cheating with my beloved birds, I also love lemurs. My favorite species is Daubentonia madagascariensis, I have never had the opportunity to see one in the wild but I am not losing hope, I will probably get the opportunity to see one even if that means doing transects at night in addition to the morning transects I usually do when studying birds. I hope Malagasy people will understand how misjudged this species is and start caring for and protecting it. In 2017, while I was doing morphometric studies of birds at Kirindy CNFEREF, one of my sites was on the daily path of a group of lemurs (Eulemur rufifrons) and sometimes I stay there to observe how each individual passes through the mist-net set up to capture birds (rest assured, birds are captured, measured and then released). Lemurs first felt the net, some tried to get under it and others climbed a tree nearby and jumped over it. Once or twice they would go straight through the net leaving a big hole, which takes me hours to fix. It seems frustrating but what won't I do for the birds or the lemurs?

It is one of the most threatened tortoises in the world. It is a small tortoise (Length: 12 15 cm Weight: 250 650 g) with a distinctly flat tail. This species is found only in a small area of western Madagascar and listed as Critically Endangered as a result of deforestation and collection for the international pet trade. Lemurs are Madagascar's treasure! On this #WorldLemurDay eve, please remember that lemurs are wild animals and #NotPets. Please don't support the illegal (in Madagascar) or sometimes legal (in some American states and Great Britain) by owning a lemur, paying to engage with a lemur, or posting or re-sharing photos of lemurs as pets (or in close proximity to humans). #Wildlife #LemurLove #Conservation WWF Madagascar Arboretum d'Antsokay IUCN Save Our Species GERP Madagascar

It’s Featured Woman Wednesday today! We take this opportunity to highlight the work and passion of a true lemur lover. My name is Bevan Clark and I am a Lead Technician at the Duke Lemur Center. I have been working at the Lemur Center for 16 + years! I work in the animal husbandry department, providing daily care for a variety of diurnal and nocturnal prosimian species. I also assist in supervising the husbandry technician staff. I studied Zoology in college and came to the ...Duke Lemur Center in 2004 after working with macaques but with little familiarity with lemurs. It was not difficult to jump on the lemur bandwagon after I arrived at the DLC. Their unique behaviours, appearances, social dynamics, etc., amaze me. Me 3 favorite species, aka love/ am obsessed with are the Eastern Lesser Bamboo lemurs, Red-bellied lemurs and Grey mouse lemurs. I am the SSP coordinator and North American Studbook keeper for the mouse lemur. Don’t tell any of these species but my favorite lemur at the DLC is Bertha, a Coquerel’s sifaka. She was the first infant born to the group of sifaka that I was caring for in 2011. She is a very laid-back lemur and wonderful at operant conditioning training. She still rules the roost over her cage mate Ferdinand but has a vast fan club of technicians and visitors. While at the DLC, I have been fortunate to travel to Madagascar on two occasions, once in 2014 to travel and experience the SAVA region and the Duke projects based there. I recently traveled there in 2019-early 2020 to work at Parc Ivoloina for 6 months at the zoo as a Technical Advisor. During my time in Madagascar, particularly my time spent at Ivoloina, I was able to meet exceptional people and lemurs. Madagascar made quite an impact on me personally and professionally. I hope to be able to go back one day to see all the friends I have made both human and lemur! : David Haring Bertha with her biggest fan reflecting on her magnificence
