we loved each other once Part of the DIRECTOR’S CHOICE Online Scene Festival at the Long Beach Playhouse Devised from the poems In My Sky at Twilight and I Remember You As You Were written by Pablo Neruda Directed by Reed Flores... ABOUT THE SCENE: In this haunting visual piece devised from two poems by Pablo Neruda, director Reed Flores explains, In this time of isolation and sheltering in place, I have been compelled by the feeling of longing for "before." I'm also super fascinated to find out the ways we can create and still make community in these times. So, we took a project I started right before the pandemic, where we devise a story using classic poetry as source material. In this iteration, we used Pablo Neruda's poems as our text and created our own "devising" process of journaling, collecting footage, text manipulation and more. We explored the feelings of longing, closure, memories, lost loves, possessiveness and letting go. Le and Angelica collected footage from around their home of New York City, and I put together the footage in the San Francisco Bay Area. The primary intent of the piece is to depict nostalgia intermingling with the present, and the journey we take in reliving our past relationships and ultimately, letting them go. CAST: Le Alfieri (Performer) Angelica Toledo (Performer) PRODUCTION CREW: Reed Flores (VIDEO EDITOR) Link to Online Program: https://drive.google.com//1PPYvseZ00Qx4xV92B6OtATEvu/view If you liked this free online program, please consider donating to the Long Beach Playhouse.
