Celebrating 1 year of Florabella @ Home!! What a super fun journey it has been so far. I am so thankful to everyone who continued to support through COVID and beyond!! I can't wait to see what this new year has in store. It's already off to a wild (in the best way) start!

Not exactly an Easter egg hunt, but still a very exciting reason to be carrying a basket. You'll be surprised to know that history of a flower girl's role did not start out so glamorous. In fact it rarely involved flowers, but rather sheafs of wheat and strands of garlic! Read a little bit about this interesting wedding tradition below. In the Roman Empire, flower girls were young virgins who carried a sheaf of wheat during the wedding ceremony; it was believed that this would bring prosperity to the bride and groom. During the Renaissance flower girls carried strands of garlic, based on the belief that garlic repelled evil spirits and bad luck.

In life, I often try to make sense of the good that can come from a challenging time. While Covid has presented numerous challenges, there have also been many silver linings for me, and I'm hopeful that the lessons I've learned will help me make decisions moving forward. So, let’s talk about pie. Honestly, I do not enjoy cooking. At all. It’s likely why I married a chef, the one who jokes that only I could ruin pasta. So on Father’s Day, I decided we would make pie for ...him. An adventurous trip to Williams Sonoma and Draegers for their pie crust - 'cause, let’s be real, there’s only so far I can go on the first try - gave us all of the tools we needed. My middle son Luca and I started with a stone fruit pie using plums from our tree. It was good, but a little soupy. Next up was a strawberry rhubarb pie, complete with lattice. I won't lie: our first lattice sucked. But thanks to some online tutorials, we are now well-versed in making lattices, complete with sugar dustings for the perfect sparkle. And our pie is good. So, so good. My husband says it is pretty much perfect and our pies are never in the house for long. So, next up? Triple berry with blackberries with our haul from Webb Ranch!

Backyard hangout goals. We set up this chic chill spot for a rehearsal dinner. When the sun went down everyone got cozy, had drinks, and roasted marshmallows. It is unique details like these that create unforgettable memories at events. This spot in particular probably wasn't given a second thought by those enjoying it in the moment, but we are positive this was one of the experiences of the evening they will never forget. Our Midsummer Harvest Bouquet features coral-colored calla lilies straight from Georgia O’Keefe’s palette and the magenta feathers of downy celosia, it’s almost like autumn is peeking around the corner. Add some garden roses and dahlias the colors of butter-drops and liquid sunshine and the end of the summer doesn’t seem so bad, after all. This week hit hard. I feel like we’ve all been hanging on by a thread, wading through each day, sometimes each hour, looking for glimmers of hope. When this pandemic began, I repeatedly expressed concern about the lasting effect this will have on humanity. Never could I have imagined waking up on Tuesday morning to the news of NYC followed by the news of George Floyd. It horrifies me that we live in a society where this exists. I grew up in a small town where racism didn’t ha...ve room to grow. Racism was discussed in school but it was not how we were raised, not what we were taught to believe, not what we experienced, and never once did I ever think I was better than my friends due to the color of my skin. There is a long road ahead to climb out of the depths of where we are, but collectively we have the ability to do so. Yes, we CAN learn to love. It’s really not that difficult, people!! Make the decision to start healing humanity. Because guess what?! #blacklivesmatter. Thank you for your words, Nelson Mandela. Repost @tatetulip

If you know anyone in the event industry, you know shelter is a difficult concept. When @bgcp began their community dinners on March 19th, it was a connection with one of our partners I needed greatly. I’m not a professional photographer by any means, but being able to help tell the story of an incredible force of good was an unexpected gift. This time has many silver linings, and this one shines. A few days ago I had the pleasure of meeting Congresswoman @jackiespeier among others. The grace, encouragement and hopefulness I’ve seen in everyone involved carries us all through. And, yes, you can absolutely see smiles, even with a mask!

A bright spot of the past few weeks has been getting to play with flowers, connecting with clients, and stretching in new ways with the creation of Florabella @ Home! Being up at market and seeing our friends who make sure we get the best blooms was the icing on the cake! @ San Francisco Flower Mart
