From pandemic fears to complex ID requirements to lack of nearby polling places, young voters in the presidential election are facing an unprecedented array of obstacles, activists and voters said. The barriers some unintentional, others allegedly by design have sparked a wave of lawsuits from New York to Texas to try to ease access to the polls for young and first-time voters. Despite the obstacles, youth voter enthusiasm is reaching historic highs and is expected to pl...ay a key role in the presidential election. As of Oct. 23, more than 5 million young people (ages 18-29) had voted early or absentee in the 2020 elections, including nearly 3 million in key battleground states, eclipsing 2016 early voting totals for that age group... https://www.usatoday.com//young-voters-suppres/6071293002/

Mississippi's abortion ban is one of two abortion-related cases that are currently awaiting the court's decision on whether to hear them. If the Supreme Court declines to hear those, another 17 are just one step away. https://www.cbsnews.com//misissippi-abortion-ban-supreme-/

A report from the Center for American Women and Politics states that, in 2020, 18 Native American womennine Democrats and nine Republicanswill have run as congressional candidates. This is the largest number of Native American women who have runoverall and in both partiesin a single election cycle. Some of these candidates were defeated in the primaries, but even so it’s still been a trailblazing year for Indigenous representation in a space that pays too little attentio...n to issues impacting Indigenous communities, especially during COVID-19. This is particularly noteworthy considering that there were no Indigenous women in Congress before 2018. The two Indigenous women who made history when they were elected to Congress two years ago, New Mexico’s Deb Haaland (Laguna Pueblo) and Kansas’s Sharice Davids (Ho-Chunk), are both running for a second term this year. https://www.vogue.com//indigenous-women-running-for-office
