We'll be sharing a number of resources this week focused on anti-racism. Starting with this list of children's books #EveryoneBelongsHere
If you have a PreK aged child and want to help them develop pre-writing skills encourage them to develop and strengthen their hand muscles with activities like cutting, beading, and playing with playdough. You can see below that their hands are still growing and won’t be ready for writing for a few more years. So let them play and develop at an age-appropriate pace. They will get there! We promise!
Our EC and PreK classes are sharing class time together virtually with our PreK kids continuing to share their All About Me posters and our EC kids practicing share and tell using their favorite toys. We may be separated but we’re always together as classmates.
Everyone loves Pete the Cat! He’s cool! Tune in to his online story time and feel groovy!

Stuck inside with your little ones and looking for an adventure? Try these virtual field trips! Each destination includes several prompts for activities to do with your kids after you visit. Being inside doesn’t mean you can’t travel the world and learn something new!
Our classes are closed temporarily due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. We will be closed beginning Monday, March 16th and plan to remain closed through Friday, April 3rd. We hope to reopen for classes and classroom observations on Monday, April 6th. At this time we will not be scheduling observations for the month of April as the current situation is a fluid one. When we have returned to normal operations we will resume scheduling classroom observations. We are continuing ...to accept online registration applications for Fall 2020 during our closure. We will continually update our website (laurelwoodpreschool.com) and this page with future developments. As a result of the ongoing pandemic and the closure of schools in our area our response time to any inquiries you may have may be delayed. We ask for your patience and understanding. We hope to return to our normal activities of learning and playing very soon.

Preschool years are not only optimal for children to learn through play, but also a critical developmental period. If children are not given enough natural movement and play experiences, they start their academic careers with a disadvantage. They are more likely to be clumsy, have difficulty paying attention, trouble controlling their emotions, utilize poor problem-solving methods, and demonstrate difficulties with social interactions. We are consistently seeing sensory, motor, and cognitive issues pop up more and more in later childhood, partly because of inadequate opportunities to move and play at an early age. https://www.washingtonpost.com//the-decline-of-play-in-p/
