Lake Elsinore Citizen Corps 03.12.2020

Attention Lake Elsinore CERT graduates! Obviously, due to the pandemic situation, it is simply impossible to plan and CERT training and/or refresher training exercises. In the meantime, the Los Angeles Fire Department / CERT program is offering some really excellent on-line training courses to keep your Emergency Preparedness game up! This month's course is on the role of the Scribe and its importance and great value towards running a successful (aka LIFE-SAVING)citizen bas...ed emergency response operation. It can be argued that the scribe is the most important position on a team. Disasters are chaos made manifest. Good documentation will make quick order of chaos. The Community Emergency Response Team forms are designed for people who don't live and breathe Incident Command System (ICS) and help guide you through what needs to be documented. The scribe is not a passive role and should be actively seeking information. Where are we, what time is it, how many survivors do we have, what are their conditions. This information needs to be reported over the radio and a good scribe will have this information ready for you to read off over the radio. Having a good scribe will make any team response better. It'll be chaos out there, if someone writes it down, you don't need to remember it and can focus on the task at hand. This on-line training, "CERT Forms and the Role of the Scribe" takes place Wednesday, October 21st, from 7pm-9pm PT. The link here will take you to the sign-up page. Please note that you DO NOT NEED to be a certified CERT graduate to attend this session. If you have ever been interested in taking CERT training this is an ideal way to see the program in "action" (even though on-line). Have had the opportunity to attend a couple of tases sessions in the last months and the information and instructors are top-notch! Also, note to those of you interested in radio operations LAFS/CERT also offers a monthly two-way radio training session that will give you knowledge and skills in this most important of emergency communication. Information can be had at the same link. We hope you take the time and CERT grads please pass on this information to others who you think would benefit from these sessions. Take care, Be safe and be well, everyone! https://lafdcertcentral-october2020.eventbrite.com

Hello to all LAKE ELSINORE CERT Members! Hoping that you and yours are fairing well in these difficult times. We just came across a very valuable and timely training presentation to share with you from CERT instructor Nick Arnett, with Santa Clara County CERT titled Resilience & Psychological First Aid. If you recall in your UNIT 5 CERT training on Disaster Psychology (of course you do!), we covered the basics in how best to respond with Disaster Reactions, Self-Care and T...eam Well-Being and Working with Survivors’ Emotional Response. Not an easy section to work through but as necessary toward your overall skills and knowledge as learning a blanket carry, lifting a fallen wall, or identifying and treating a patient with shock. Mr. Arnett’s presentation was created on 15 April 2020 and intentionally directed towards giving us personal insight understanding the current state of disaster stress reactions and ways to respond both personally and for others during the current pandemic disaster situation. Its an hour-long presentation with the first 30 minutes focusing on teaching resilience, which we think you’ll find VERY valuable to view, as it's good at getting in-depth with the Self Care aspect of UNIT 5. The second half-hour is more in-depth on Psychological First Aid (PFA) as our training UNIT 5 covered. We always encourage you to brush up on your original CERT training and hope you still find that time you spent with the course was and still valuable to you. Also, we are always looking for ways to work up CERT refresher training and so please take this time to refresh your knowledge on this important unit of CERT training. In the meantime, be safe and healthy, and as always thank you for your diligent commitment to your community! https://youtu.be/kRjJxlqBzD0
