Ospreys are often spotted along the coastline, and occasionally, they will also visit the canyons. This raptor was once nicknamed the fish hawk because of its diet of primarily fish. A striking bird of prey that is always exciting to see! This beautiful photo was shared by a neighbor who spotted this Osprey perched in their backyard. Thanks for sharing, Debbie!
Planting season kicked off yesterday for the LCF Field Crew with a casual delivery of 6,500 native plants. ! It's a good thing they love to plant!
LCF Restoration Crew hand seeded almost 6 acres last week! Can't wait to keep you updated as things begin to grow.
We agree this weather is perfect for spending time outdoors! While you enjoy the beautiful open space, please also help us protect it by staying on authorized trails and picking up your trash. You can plan ahead by checking maps and trail rules on the OC Parks website. Remember, it's our trail, but it's their home. #protectwhatyoulove
An exciting start to the week with a cool wildlife sighting at Aliso Creek! LCF Restoration Coordinator Robin spotted this Hooded Merganser! Hooded Mergansers are small ducks that spend their time in small bodies of fresh water. They are particularly fond of diving for fish and aquatic insects. The one pictured here is an adult male; the females are a beautiful cinnamon brown. It's great to see unique wildlife thriving around our restoration sites.

Did you know that our coastal sage scrub ecosystem is not found anywhere else in the world? Or that our canyons lie within a biodiversity hotspot, just like the Great Barrier Reef and the Amazon rainforest? It’s our responsibility as a community to come together and protect this land for generations to come. For over 25 years, Laguna Canyon Foundation has been protecting, preserving, promoting, and enhancing the 22,000-acre open space that surrounds our coastal communities. ...We acquire land for preservation, monitor wildlife, restore native habitat, educate thousands of students, lead free hikes and events, and maintain trails throughout our open space. You can get involved by volunteering, donating, enjoying one of our free guided hikes, or even sharing this video. Visit us at lagunacanyon.org for more information. #KeepItWild

Volunteer Dave picked up a lot of trash on his hike, including this balloon. Remember, don’t let balloons go! The float far and wide, harming animals and polluting the earth. @balloonsblow
Trail cams captured this bobcat strolling through our project. Love to see it! #WildlifeWenesday
Winston Churchill once wisely said that All the great things in life are simple and if we can take away anything from this COVID-era, it’s the appreciation of the things we once took for granted. Things like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and even our outdoor spaces. We estimate there are three times as many people using the trails as there were twelve months ago. With so many wheels and feet, our parks need our help more than ever before. This precious resource is being loved to death. Donate to Laguna Canyon Foundation today to help maintain trails, restore damaged habitat, and educate park users to lessen their impact. We all need to come together to ensure our open spaces remain healthy, open, and accessible for generations to come. Protect what you love by donating online at https://lagunacanyon.org /donate/
Remember to look up when you're out on the trails. Peregrine Falcon spotted by LCF Restoration Tech Alyssa #keepitwild
The leaves of the Western Sycamore have turned to beautiful hues of yellow as they begin to drop for the winter. Sycamore trees are common in the canyon habitat and play an important role in supporting local wildlife.
