Beloved children’s book author. Former librarian. Cat lover. That’s Beverly Cleary. Let’s celebrate her legacy, stories that have and will continue to delight generations of young readers. Ms. Cleary said she wrote about ordinary children and their lives, imperfect and humorous, like Henry Huggins, and Beezus and Ramona Quimby, and later, about an adventurous mouse with a motorcycle. Her goal? To write books that made children want to read. She succeeded! Image/Wikimedia commons: the author and her cat, Kitty, ca.1955.

Together, we will triumph. With tremendous sadness, we again decry the racism and racial violence that persists today, and that terrifies, threatens, and even kills our family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and community members. LA County Library Foundation stands in solidarity with Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans. ... We will work with and support you to achieve racial equity and social justice. Together, we will forge the community we want and need, one marked by understanding, equity, and inclusion for every person.
