Los Angeles County Brewers Guild 02.11.2020

The Los Angeles County Brewers Guild still needs your help! We need the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and L.A. Department of Public Health to help us reopen safely in order to save our businesses from devastating permanent closures! We're willing to do what it takes to show that our breweries are capable of meeting all safety guidelines and are dedicated to helping to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Our communities are important to us and as exclusively small and i...ndependently-owned businesses, we want to have the chance to survive. Head to www.labrewersguild.org/savelabrewers and consider sending an email or social post to L.A. County supervisors to echo our plea. Special thanks to Mt. Lowe Brewing for coordinating this group video and to the incredibly generous Anna Zielinski of ARZ Entertainment for donating the time and talent to put this together.

It's been 64 days since outdoor tasting room patios such as the one at Smog City Brewing has been allowed to operate with a food vendor. Our small businesses are nearing the end of their rope and we're still unable to get L.A. County to align with the State health order which, even with it's updated tier-system, would allow us to reopen under the condition that meals be served. Meals. All we need is the ability to partner with a food vendor outdoors to SAVE our businesses from collapse. A new week begins, but our craft brewery tap rooms are still in dire straits. While the Governor did release a new blueprint for a safer economy last week, Los Angeles County has yet to allow us to partner with food vendors. If we were allowed food vendors, per the state's new order, we would be allowed to reopen tasting rooms per restaurant guidelines (as we did back in June). Councilmember David E. Ryu is proposing an extension to L.A. Al Fresco and we think it's the great idea. Just one request -- can we be part of this? Our breweries are ready for outdoor socially-distant dining and are willing to pivot and innovate in order to keep our community safe. Happy to discuss what we can do to make this happen on an industry-wide level and eager to support our local food vendors who are also struggling to stay afloat. Our #SaveLABrewers campaign launched yesterday and we've gotten an outpouring of community support. Thank you to all who have written, tweeted, commented, posted on our behalf! While we have yet to hear of any changes at the county, we're at least hopeful to have the support of the Los Angeles City Council should they chose to pass a motion made today by small business and brewery supporters Councilmember Joe Buscaino and Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell. Read about it in today's post on Daily Breeze: https://www.dailybreeze.com//san-pedro-rep-presses-for-co/

We've been patient and understanding during this most tumultuous of times. We've adapted, struggled, and shut down our tasting rooms (twice) all in the good faith that we were helping our communities. And while we wouldn't ever go against the rules, the rules just simply aren't fair to L.A. County breweries. As the ONLY county unable to partner with food vendors to provide safe outdoor dining, we stand as a unified organization and are pleading with Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to please help #SaveLAbrewers! A post is up on our blog explaining the situation. It's a long one, but we hope we can count on your support.

Many of our amazing supporters have asked us why we aren't allowed to operate outdoors with food vendors as was the case back in June. To be honest, we don't have a good answer for you, but we're all trying our best to follow the new rules while also trying to keep our small businesses afloat. Please consider supporting your local independent breweries with To-Go and Delivery purchases -- we hope we can see you all again in the future. Nick Green sheds a little light on this issue via Daily Breeze & its family of county newspapers & chats with Los Angeles County Brewers Guild President Laina McFerren of Wolf Creek Brewery:

While we are happy to welcome you back into our tap rooms for a nice cold beer on these hot summer days, we kindly ask that you PLEASE respect the house rules we all have in place for the safety of our guests and our staff. Some breweries may require temperature checks prior to entry and others may limit group sizes and require reservations. Los Angeles County requires that masks are worn in public spaces -- this includes our breweries. If not seated and enjoying a meal and your beers, please wear masks in public areas. Following these rules allows us to make sure we're doing our part to keep folks safe and keeps us open. Here is a running list of those who have reopened or plan to reopen in the near-future: https://labrewersguild.org/reopen/

Our nonprofit organization is comprised of so many different cultures, backgrounds, and creeds. Our diversity is one of our biggest strengths and our sense of community is one of our strongest assets. This year has met us with so many challenges. This last week has left our hearts heavy. As an organization that represents so many, it's difficult for us express ourselves as a whole. We want our community to know that we are with you. We may not always have the words, but our c...ommunity stands with the people of Los Angeles County. We stand with our fellow Americans. We stand with our fellow human beings. We don't stand for racism, inequality, and abuses of power. We champion the first amendment and speaking out against oppression and injustice. It's a beautiful thing to see our community rise up in this moment to combat a painful and ugly issue. It's inspiring to see collaboration and solidarity. Let us all continue to foster important efforts for inclusivity, accountability, and a hope for a better tomorrow. L.A. Brewers wishes you all good health, safety, peace, and love. Thank you for being part of our family and for taking the time to read this. Follow our Instagram at @labrewers for updates on local efforts from our membership. See more

After over 10 weeks of Safer-At-Home restrictions which have shuttered our tap rooms and restaurants to on-premise consumption, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has announced that the State of California has approved their plans for moving deeper into phase 2 of the California’s 4-phase Road to Recovery. While we have missed seeing all of your faces enjoying our beers in our tap rooms, we have understood the necessity of being in line with these COVID-19 reg...ulations as a means to help flatten the curve and protect our communities. As our ability to reopen our businesses returns, please note that not all businesses will open at the same time and we urge you to remain patient while our brewery members make the extra effort to ensure the safety of our teams and of our amazing guests. Members of the Los Angeles County Brewers Guild have taken the pledge to continue to operate with the utmost diligence and care. We have been fortunate to be able to offer take-out and delivery during this period of isolation and so we have already been on top of many of these safety standards. Our pledge to you, our craft beer supporters, allies, and friends, is to be transparent and compliant in all of the required sanitation, distancing, and safety protocols put in place by our various regulatory bodies.
