An art piece by a Japanese carpenter / artist friend. A katana tansu with a solid keyaki wood (zelkova) body and kiri wood (paulownia) interior drawers. All done with traditional style Japanese carpentry / joinery. There's even a Japanese style gourd to camouflage and lock in a small crack on the side.... This is his second one. See more

One of the best students of nihonto that I have ever met. We actually met at a Nanka Token Kai meeting many many moons ago. And we have since become family, we have studied together, ate together and traveled to Japan together. Thats why groups such as ours are important in life. Thank you Frankie for teaching me about life.

NTK Members, It is with great sadness that I report of club member Frankie Banali's passing yesterday evening. Frankie showed great spirit during his 16 month battle with pancreatic cancer. His bright spirit and outlook was an inspiration for all to follow. His wife and daughter were with him as he passed peacefully. Frankie was an avid collector of Japanese antiquities and always willing to talk swords. We thank him for the wonderful times we've all shared and the service h...e's provided to the NTK. NTK Members, I hope this email finds you healthy and well as the circumstances allow. You've all been in my thoughts as we've sheltered in place. Many have probably wondered when the next meeting will be and I am among that group. Just today, I checked the JCI website and found it to still be closed.
