We are back with #ThrowbackThursday sharing a look back at previous cover stars of The Arabian Magazine. This week, we are going back to July 2008 and the beautiful mare MA Bint Azadik. The article below is as first printed. https://www.thearabianmagazine.com/on-the-cover-ma-bint-aza
*Exelsjor was bred in Poland and later imported to the U.S. He became a really good broodmare sire. His daughter Jortaala produced national champion stallion Exceladdinn. Here are ads for *Exelsjor through the years.
Every year, fewer people choose to breed Arabians and those who do frequently are investing in the 'current' bloodlines. We are losing older lines, particularl...y through the sires. It is easy to decry this and wonder why 'others' aren't breeding the way we would like. Sometimes, though, one just has to take the leap and do what can be done yourself. I have one of the last Abu Farwa sireline stallions and the only one through Elsinore Abufarza. Prince Kellii-roo is 24 this year and has no registered foals. (He had unregistered ones.) I have one mare in foal for this summer and will breed him to at least one more mare for myself. If you are interested in maintaining the older bloodlines, now is the time to step up and breed to one of these older guys before the chance is forever gone. PM for information on breeding to Prince Kellii-roo.
Here are some horses advertised in the 1957 Arabian Horse Yearbook that caught my eye. In going through the early Yearbooks, there weren't very many imports advertised, so this photo of *Pilot was a rarity.
Join us tomorrow for this very interesting lecture!!! All creatures great and small: The bond is about relationships!! Many have acknowledged the important rol...es animals have played in the lives of humans. Newspapers, magazines and films are filled with true stories of heart-warming accounts of how animals have impacted our lives. In so many ways, science is now confirming what many have known for years: surrounding ourselves with these beings is good for our well-being. Within this session Professor Aubrey Fine will give a brief overview of the value of the human animal bond and highlight some of the benefits. He will also focus on his own personal journey with the animals in his life including his warm-hearted friendship with CA Poly’s C.P. Metropolitan who he calls Amber.
This is Rapture, grandsire of Cass Ole. What nice conformation! https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/rapture
One of the things I really enjoy about going through the old Arabian Horse Yearbooks is seeing photos of horses when they were younger, before they became famou...s. Here are two from the 1956 Yearbook -- Bolero, the 1963 Reserve National Champion stallion and sire of National Champion Stallion Zarabo; and Witezar, who stood for many years at Betts Circle 2 in Colorado, siring one of the top endurance horses in history, Witezarif. This ad in the April 1972 Arabian Horse News was unusual in that it used numerous photos to emphasize the consistency in the Spencer's Arabian Stud breeding program.
Dreamazon was considered by many to have the perfect Arabian head. Here is an ad for him as a young horse, which appeared in the May 1980 Arabian Horse World. ...And here is a link to a neat video taken by Carolyn Hasbrook of Dreamazon as an older horse. It's really cool to see how he matured. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGd83_DScV0 See more

*Elkana+++ is another horse I've featured previously, but here are some more photos of her. She was a cover girl many times, including the April 1993 Arabian Horse World and the Jan./Feb. 1977 Arabian Horse Times.
Gainey Arabians offered more than 30 horses for private sale before the 1977 Scottsdale show. Here are photos of some of them, along with neat head shots of Ferzon and Gai Parada+. (From December 1976 Arabian Horse Times).

Strand's Arabians have been a mainstay in Iowa for many years. They started as a breeding operation, but now that the elder Strands have passed on, the farm is ...mainly a show operation, but still stands some stallions that Jody Strand has shown. Here are ads for the stallions the farm had at stud, from the December 1976 Arabian Horse Times. See more
