BFEF volunteers along with Desert Springs Trout Farm & Ch...ase Pasley of Bridgeport Reservoir Marina & Campground teamed up to stock 800 pounds of BFEF TTT @ Bridgeport Reservoir, Upper Twin Lake/Mono Village and along Robinson Creek. I apologize for the long absence of new posts but the last year has been a doozy for all! As most of you already know, the CA DFW has implemented sweeping new ...changes to the fishing regulations beginning March 1. While many of the new regs seem to be a good thing or at least harmless, the changes to the regs for the East Walker are going to be devastating to both the river and the local economy. Closing the river to winter angling will definitely have a negative impact on businesses in Bridgeport where survival is never a sure thing. On top of the winter closure, the DFW decided to double the number of fish over 18 inches a person can keep. If that wasn't bad enough, they are now allowing barbed hooks on a special reg water. There is no way a fish hooked by 3 barbed treble hooks can be safely returned to the water if it is undersized. If these new changes make you as upset and worried as I am please contact the CA Fish and Wildlife Commission and make your opinion heard. These regs are not set in stone, they can be changed if enough people voice their concerns. We recommend a year round season with barbless single hooks and a zero limit to coincide with the regs in Nevada. Bridgeport Fish Report - Jan. 10, 2021 EAST WALKER RIVER January 10, 2021 The River is at its regular winter flows right now which is about 20 cfs. The weather has been pretty mild for this time of the year and the EW has been fishing pretty well lately. There’s lots of nice fish in the 12 to 18 inch range being caught with a few being reported in the 20 to 24 inch range as well. Nymphing seems to be the best method though there has been some fish being caught on drie...s. The traffic is pretty light this time of the year so even though there’s not as much water to fish as in the summer there’s not too many anglers to compete with. Patterns to try include: flashback emerger, top secret midge, WD-40, radiation baetis, dark lord, San Juan worm, squirmy wormy, perdigon nymph. SCEIRINE RANCH January 10, 2021 We haven’t had much traffic to speak of on the ranch lately but the Rosachi section of the EW has been fishing well so that would indicate the private section is probably fishing well also. We’re starting to get some bookings for later in the season but not too much going on right now, if you want to book some time on the ranch give us a call! The fishing down there has been pretty good in spite of the flows moving up and down. It’s been mostly nymphing but there has been some decent dry/dropper and streamer action from time to time. Inyo National Forest Partially Re-opening. The Inyo National Forest announces a partial re-opening of the forest on October 3. Open: Wildernesses in the Inyo ...Mountains and the White Mountains, front country dispersed areas throughout the forest, developed sites, resorts, and recreation resident cabins. Developed recreation campgrounds will re-open. However, many campgrounds will remain closed due to end of season operations or because they are within closed areas. Open campgrounds: Aspen, Lower Lee Vining, Hartley Springs, Glass Creek, Big Springs, Oh Ridge, Twin Lakes, Silver Lake, New Shady Rest, Convict, French Camp, Four Jeffery, Sabrina, Bitterbrush, Upper Sage, Lone Pine, and Whitney Portal. Closures: Inyo National Forest within Madera County remains closed. The most common destinations are Reds Meadow Valley and the Devils Postpile National Monument. This area remains closed due to the Creek Fire to the west. Forest Closure 05-04-51-20-17 remains in effect and closes areas, including Monache Meadows, due to the SQF Complex (Castle Fire). Forest order 05-04-54-20-15 remains in effect and includes Navy Beach and the South Tufa Area. The Inyo portions of the South Sierra, Golden Trout, John Muir, Ansel Adams, Owens River Headwaters, and Hoover Wilderness Areas remain closed through December 1, 2020.This closure may be rescinded or extended as needed. Many of the Inyo’s trail networks lead into active fire areas that are closed and that are managing complex and difficult fires. Fire restrictions are in effect. Propane and gas stove use are now permitted in developed recreation sites in National Forests in California. Developed recreation sites are defined as areas that have been improved or developed for recreation such as campgrounds and day use sites. Woodcutting With a valid woodcutting permit, firewood may be cut as long as it is in a permitted collection area that is open. Visitors to the Eastern Sierra should expect smoky conditions from various fires throughout the region.

Today, we received direction from the Regional Office that the Emergency Forest Closures would be extended for the seven of the nine forests that are currently ...closed. This includes the Inyo National Forest. The regional order is expected to be extended through October 8. Emergency Fire Restrictions will also be extended. As always, the regional order can be rescinded or extended, based on conditions. The Regional Office decision is based on the continued hot and dry conditions that remain in the forecast for the upcoming week, continued active fires throughout the state, and continued firefighting resources limitations.
