There are unique barriers to voting experienced by survivors of intimate partner violence. From fear of potential retaliation to privacy concerns, some survivors face a unique set of obstacles that prevent them from making their voices heard at the voting booth. Since 1999, the state of California has run the Safe at Home program to ensure that victims of domestic violence and human trafficking have a mailing address that enables them to vote by mail confidentially. Trained advocates are available at the National Domestic Violence Hotline 24/7 to talk confidentially with anyone in the United States who is experiencing domestic violence, seeking resources or information, or questioning unhealthy aspects of their relationship. If you or someone you know needs help, get connected to local resources and information (resources for US, Canada, Mexico, and UK included): https://www.ajli.org/?nd=p-do-comm-ip-dom-violence#ncadv #DVAM2020 #DVAM #JLBetterTogether #jlsjc

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Intimate partner violence affects millions of people in the United States and around the world each year. Data from the CDC’s National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) indicate that in the U.S., about 1 in 4 women and nearly 1 in 10 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime. Join us throughout the month as we share information and resources about this important issue. #DVAM2020 #DVAM #JLBetterTogether #jlsjc
