Mount Saint Mary's University's innovative "Looking is Not Seeing" art observation program for nursing students continues - and this time here at the MSMU Los Angeles José Drudis-Biada Art Gallery! Last week, juniors in the University's TBSN program closely studied a series of paintings here to sharpen their objective observational skills - skills they will daily put to use as nurses. "Looking is Not Seeing" was developed by the Yale School of Nursing and the Yale Center fo...r British Art. Sarah Shealy, assistant professor of nursing, and art instructor Nina Berson collaborated with Yale faculty to establish a version of the program here at the Mount. The University has also partnered with art museums such as LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Norton Simon Museum to have nursing students participate in "Looking is Not Seeing" among their collections. #MSMUnstoppable See more

A new exhibition at Mount Saint Mary’s University showcases four female artists working in Southern California who share a philosophy: to fiercely engage with the material world to create something out of what has already been something else. Connie D.K. Lane, Valerie Wilcox, Linda Smith and Gina Herrera work from distinct points of view, but their creations reveal that they all revile the pervasiveness of waste. The proof is in the joint exhibition Material Success, now op...en at the José Drudis-Biada Art Gallery on Mount Saint Mary’s Chalon Campus. Material Success is available for viewing Monday through Thursday, and Saturdays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 8, 2016, from noon to 5 p.m. each day. The exhibition’s opening reception is Sunday, Sept. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m. For more info, call 310.954.4360 or visit https://www.msmu.edu/resources-culture/art-gallery/.
