Keep it fun. Keep it safe. Keep it car free. Would you like a car free Shelley Drive to continue past the pandemic? I know I would. My kids can't get enough "riding in the streets" without the fear of getting run over. It's a very relaxing feeling if you are a parent that's for sure. More folks enjoying the beauty of the park from all areas of the city. Its really been amazing. One positive side to the Covid pandemic. https://sf.streetsblog.org//what-about-shelley-drive-in-/

Born in Scotland, John McLaren learned horticulture by working as a gardener at country estates and the Royal Botanic Garden. In 1872, he immigrated to the U.S.... where he began work as Head Gardener at the El Cerrito estate. McLaren got the job of the San Francisco Superintendant of Parks. Over the course of his tenure McLaren would introduce over 600 species into the northern California landscape and make large-scale improvements to the park system, including the completion of Golden Gate Park. There is even a park located in the southern part of San Francisco and lesser known park often overlooked. McLaren Park has 7+ miles of walking trails through 312 acres. Established in 1927, the park is named for John McLaren, the ‘grandfather' of Golden Gate Park. SF City Guides walks are currently paused. www.sfcityguides.org Some of my personal favorite walking tours are: | Cow Hollow | Land’s End | Russian Hill Stairway Hike | Fairmont Hotel

URGENT ACTION ALERT : advocate now for more money for McLaren Park! Hello Help McLaren Park Group! I’m sending you this note because I know you to be an advocate and friend of McLaren Park. As you may or may not be aware, the scheduled 2020 parks bond has been incorporated into an overall 2020 Health & Recovery G.O. Bond. The Bond will be heard at this Wednesday’s Budget & Finance Committee. There is only $6m for McLaren park, and it is included as part of an overall Citywide... Parks program that allocates $10m for Golden Gate Park, and $2m for Lake Merced. I’m advocating that the whole thing go to McLaren. If you agree, please send an email to your supervisor and the supervisors on the budget and finance committee, Supervisors Walton, Fewer, and Mandelman. The bond also allocates funding for Crocker Amazon and Herz Playground, but as you can see in my letter below, we shouldn’t let those allocations be a reason not to invest in Mclaren. The present moment requires that we genuinely pursue projects and investments that *create and increase* access to open space for BIPOC communities, not just renovate what’s there (although do that too!). Please feel free to adapt the letter below for your own purposes. Here are all the supervisors emails once again..... Board of Supervisors 1 Dr. Carlton B.
