Did you know that many factors can be in cause when you experience pain after a run? The hardness of the ground on which you run is an important thing to consider. In fact, running on a less stiff surface like a treadmill or grass is more recommended than running on asphalt. This is recommended since asphalt absorbs less chock than a more flexible surface, therefore causing more impact on your joints. However, it’s a good idea to vary the grounds on which you run to diversify the impact and the solicitation of the ligaments

It’s Innovation Friday! Several events led to the discovery of vision correction surgery. The first work on the possibility of treating astigmatism was carried out by the Dutchman Lendeer Jans Lans, who published a treatment modifying the curvature of the cornea by means of incisions. In 1930, a Japanese ophthalmologist named Tsutomu Sato performed the first known refractive surgeries on the... corneas of military pilots. Since the laser had not yet been invented, he made small incisions himself. His technique, however, led to the rapid degeneration of their cornea. In 1963, the Spaniard José Ignacio Barraquer Moner invented an instrument called the microkeratome, with which he remodeled the cornea of rabbits to correct their myopia. This breakthrough laid the foundation for modern laser surgery. Towards the end of the 1960s, Sviatoslav Fyodorov examined a child who fell off his bicycle and injured his eye with the shatter of his glasses. He then realized that the child had lost part of his cornea, which greatly improved his vision. He furthered his research in this area and developed radial keratotomy, a major contribution to the refractive surgery technique. The laser was invented at the same time. Researchers at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center proved that it could be used without burning organic tissue by testing it on turkey leftovers after Thanksgiving. Another advance in the technique came from Dr. Stephen Trokel, who in 1988 conducted experiments on humans in a trailer near the LSU Medical Center’s trash compactor. The vibration of the compactor allowed high quality corneal ablations to be performed and improved patients’ vision. The LASIK intervention, however, is the work of the Greek Ioannis Pallikaris, who performed a complete procedure on a human being in 1989. In the same year, however, the Iranian Gholan Peyman applied for a patent for the same procedure, which he was finally granted. #KneeKG #KneeKinesiography #EyeSurgery #LaserSurgery #Lasik See more

It’s Innovation Friday! The laser is a highly useful invention in the medical field as it allows for more effective treatments. Its usefulness is particularly recognized in the fields of ENT, dentistry, gynecology, urology and aesthetics. The theory behind the laser comes from the reflections of Charles Townes and Arthur Schawlow, then working at Columbia University. In the 1950s, Townes developed his theory based on his knowledge of radar (radio wave) bombing during Wor...ld War II and a natural understanding of microwave generating devices. He then develops a maser, which happens to be a wave amplifier. With Schawlow, they question the possibility of amplifying visible light. They ultimately publish the theoretical basis behind the laser in 1958. As early as 1960, Theodore Maiman, a California researcher, makes the first laser using a ruby bar. He sends his research to a magazine, which refuses to publish it, judging it irrelevant. He finally succeeds in getting his article published and the laser is quickly popularized by his laboratory. Researchers from around the world then embark on a race to develop derivatives of this laser and different physical systems. At this stage, no one knew what it could be used for. #KneeKG #KneeKinesiography #Physiotherapy #Innovation #MedicalTechnology #HealthSciences #Laser See more
