Thank you to everyone who has supported the WALK so far! And a special thanks to the talented sophomores who created these WALK designs: Kate Park, whose design is featured on the WALK shirt; Isabel Cunningham, whose design is featured on the WALK sweatshirt; and Anne Wagner, whose design is featured on the new stainless steel tumbler. Help us continue to make this WALK a success and support our Financial Aid Fund here: https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/IH2020WALK
Thank you to our six alumnae from the Class of 2010 who joined us today for the "She Se Puede" Panel hosted by Immaculate Heart High School's Latinas Unidas! Maritza Abarca Salas, Cleo Aguiree, Nicole Dunross, Helen Gomez, Jerenny Medrano Flores and Giselle Villatoro all shared how their Latinx heritage and time at IHHS have shaped their lives and careers in fields ranging from entertainment to education, as well as medicine and law.
Members of the Girls' Athletic Association and the Pre-Med Club came to campus this weekend to make posters and decorations in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which now hang on the fence along Western Avenue. Our love and support go out to all those who are fighting this disease, as well as all those searching for a cure.
Congratulations to alumna Lisa Richards Love, Class of 1986, on being named one of Entrepreneur's 100 Powerful Women of 2020! Love is a co-founder of Tanoshi, a company developing laptops for children that won a sponsorship on Shark Tank this past May. We're excited to celebrate her continued success. Immaculate Heart congratulates alumna, historian and author Natalia Molina, Class of 1989, as the recipient of the distinguished MacArthur Fellowship! Molina, a USC professor of American studies and ethnicity, received her fellowship for exploring how histories, especially stories about race and policies developed around race, continue to shape national policy today. Her most recent book is "How Race is Made in America: Immigration, Citizenship and the Historial Power of Racial Scripts." (Photo credit: John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation)
Paige the Panda is making the rounds to celebrate the IHMS sections with the greatest WALK participation so far! She's visited a few classrooms already -- where will she end up next? Help send her to a student's section by making a gift to support IH's Financial Aid Fund here: https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/IH2020WALK
To promote voter awareness, our ASB officers hosted an activity today with social studies chair Mike Edwards, who addressed how the electoral college works using the 270-to-win online interactive map, and theology teacher Timothy Crehan, who explained what it means to vote conscientiously. Students also learned how to pre-register to vote in a presentation by IH sophomore Katherine Bernstein, who is active with Future Voters Los Angeles.
Along with their WALK shirts, IHHS Scholar Athletes belatedly picked up their plaques at our recent WALK Kickoff. Though unable to formally recognize their achievements last spring, IH proudly honors all 143 Scholar Athletes, who achieved an average GPA of 3.73 for the 2019-20 school year. Go Pandas! Go Heart!
IH students show off their new WALK shirts! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our early momentum. Please help us keep it up and support our Financial Aid Fund! #IHWALK2020 https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/IH2020WALK
Immaculate Heart kicked off our 2020 WALK today with a drive through event! This year, all proceeds will go to support our Financial Aid Fund to ensure that every Panda can get the most out of their IH experience. Please help us make this the best WALK yet! https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/IH2020WALK
Our students definitely made Crazy Day a success this Spirit Week. Thank you to everyone who wore crazy hats and hairstyles!
High school and middle school student leaders came to campus this week to create posters and other decorations for a special end-of-week event. Stay tuned to find out what we have in store!
Spirit Week is in stylish swing with IHHS students sporting tie-dye shirts today! And we're really looking forward to seeing what they'll come up with for tomorrow's Crazy Outfit day.
