He doesn't know why it makes him a more present dad but there's major research being done on the vagus nerve and autonomic nervous system that would explain why he feels so great after a cold dip. Why do people encourage you to take a cold shower, or splash cold water on your face when you're angry or sad? It calms the nervous system. It shuts down the fight or flight mechanism responsible for keeping us hyped and anxious, and the freeze mechanism which encourages us to leave... our bodies/dissociate in times of trouble or trauma. Once those 2 mechanisms are off the Ventral Vagus can kick in. It's responsible for healing, achieving higher states of consciousness, a feeling of serenity, long term learning/memory, and many other major benefits. Cold water is only one way to calm the autonomic nervous system. Holla if you're interested in learning more! See more
Let’s agree right now, today, in this room, to walk hand-in-hand, side-by-side, Elliot exhorted the audience Thursday, and become actively apart of modeling for our children what true socio-emotional wellness looks like. Dr. Niki Elliott #Down4OPC !!! (other people's children)

We all know that in order for caterpillar to become a butterfly, it undergoes an unbelievable metamorphosis. But most of us have no idea what that entails. I've been very interested in that process lately as one of the most clear demonstrations of being born again. The caterpillar essentially 'digests' itself. Enzymes are released that basically make the caterpillar into a 'soup'. In that process of digestion it awakens sleeping cells that will feed on that 'soup'... and become the parts of it's next incarnation. I'm leaving some key elements out but I'm sure you're already gagging;) But this is an incredible lesson for us. In order for us to move to our next stage, to transform ourselves anew, we must first accept/digest who we've been. We must reconcile the good and the bad and not only identify and acknowledge it but own it. That ownership and acceptance of those things we no longer need, will activate the sleeping cells inside us that will be the building blocks of our new selves. We use the processed information, the 'negative' experiences, to feed the newly formed self. To inform the next incarnation. We don't throw it away. It becomes the soup we feed on to create new life. Let's take this weekend to identify, accept and then OWN the parts of ourselves that no longer serve us. Thank those experiences, those people. Then use the lessons we learned from them to make ourselves new. The caterpillar is a clear demonstration that in order to transform we must first accept and own who we've been with love and compassion. In light! Ashe. ~Minister V.~
On February 18th, I was ordained into the ministry by my spiritual counselour and father Rev. Dr. Charles O. Brown, through my home church, Christ the Resurrected! I am so very honoured and blessed to be a part of the work of our church and of Spirit. I can only pray to God that I live up to Her calling!
There’s a scripture in the Bible from Corinthians that says, Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. This post is me desiring to be fully known. I started on my spiritual path with intention when I was about 10 years old. We were Jehovah’s Witnesses so yes, we went door to door, wakin ya’ll up waaay too early on Saturday mornings to peddle the Watchtower and The Wake. But I was not hearing God in the Kingdom Hall. The God served there was no...Continue reading
