A letter from our Executive Director Jan Stokley: Thank you for your great work today supporting the people we serve to tell their housing story before the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. It was very powerful. Supervisor Simitian originally proposed that the funds come from the Measure A housing bond, and that the guidelines be revised to allow for financing applications for housing projects that target people with developmental disabilities who are not currently ho...meless, but are extremely low and very low income. As approved by the Board of Supervisors today on a 5-0 vote, the County's Chief Executive Officer will identify $40 million in non-Measure A funds that can be used to support a new county finance program to provide housing for extremely low and very low income individuals with developmental disabilities served by the Regional Center and who are not yet homeless. County funds would enable a number of Partner Properties we have in the pipeline to finally start construction. And it would inspire additional developers to look again at inclusive housing for people with developmental disabilities---some have been deterred by lack of access to Measure A funds while others have persevered with us. The administration will report back to the Board with funds identified as well as an outline of how the program will work, so there will be additional opportunity for public input. Our work is just beginning. Please reach out to everyone you know who attended, and let them know they made a difference. Please encourage folks to send thank you emails to the supervisors for committing to find a solution, and let the supervisors know it's urgent that the county participate in city efforts to create housing for people with developmental disabilities. Special thanks to Supervisor Simitian for his leadership on behalf of our community. And to Supervisor Wasserman for helping get this on the agenda. What a great community effort!
