The ride leaders of the Elk Grove Cycling had a Zoom meeting on Sunday afternoon in regards to restarting group rides for the EGCC. With covid-19 cases currently on the rise, and the reality on how fast it spreads, it was important that we gathered together and discussed this topic in detail. After much discussion, it was decided that all sponsored Meetup rides for the Elk Grove Cycling Club will be canceled until further notice. It was difficult to make this decision since... we see so many aspects of our society reopening. But in the end, we had to look at the big picture of the overall health and safety of our club and believe this was the right decision to make. We will readdress this subject in a few weeks and keep everyone updated.

Good afternoon! I received the following message from Carrie Whitlock that I wanted to share with the club. Hello,... I am managing an update to the City of Elk Grove’s Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trails Master Plan. The Plan will develop a network of streets, trails and paths where bicycling and walking is safe, comfortable and convenient for people of all ages and abilities. While we had hoped to gather in-person input for the Plan update, that is not currently an option, though we do hope that it will be possible in the future. In the interim, we have developed a map tool to help us get input for the update. The social pinpoint survey will help us ensure we are addressing challenges and gaps with our bicycling and pedestrian infrastructure. If you go to the project page on our City website you can sign up to receive updates as the project progresses. I would appreciate if you could share this information with networks you have who would be interested and able to provide input. If you would be willing to share the social media posts that we have done on this topic on your social media platforms, they can be found below. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. MAY IS BIKE MONTH IS NOW IN PROGRESS! Social distancing will keep us from hosting any club rides for MIBM. However, solo rides, as well as rides with your social circle, while maintaining social distance, will provide an opportunity to log your miles in a fun and friendly competition between other cycling clubs in Sacramento, while celebrating the awesome machines we call bikes. If you have not ridden your bike lately, dust it off, pump up the tires and enjoy a ride.... Due to the covid virus, trainer miles will be accepted this year for the very first time! So to those of you that can't leave your home, yet are working those trainers, here is your opportunity to enjoy the fun! If you have registered for this event in the past for EGCC, you can login and receive your badges. If you are new to MIBM, you can register by clicking on the below link, and after registering, choose the Elk Grove Cycling Club as your team. Show your support and tell your friends and family to join the Elk Grove Cycling Club team for the month of May! https://mayisbikemonth.com/#/

For all of you empty nesters that can go out and ride in this gorgeous sunshine, I envy you. I will be hooking up the trainer and pedaling looking out the window. In the mean time, if any of you need work done or repairs to your bikes (or need to buy a trainer to be a sad indoor cat like me), Elk Grove Bike Shop (now Neighborhood Bike Shop) is taking appointments. Doors are closed to the walk in public, but if you email them [email protected], they will get you booked in. **This is not a paid ad or endorsement by EGCC... this is just Ryan misusing her credentials to let you guys know you can still fix your bikes :D
