As we switched from a "normal" lifestyle to one almost completely remote and now almost back to "normal" again, sleep schedules have shifted and suffered. We invited Dr. Victoria Sharma, from Sharp Grossmont Hospital, to teach us habits that will give us a good night's sleep and alleviate feeling tired all day long. Join us April 28th at 10AM for the free talk to ask your questions: http://ow.ly/tFR150Ej9FP

Check out our Library Assistant Sue's review of Dale Evans: Beyond the Happy trails, new to our Libby/Overdrive e-book collection, available for checkout 24/7!: http://ow.ly/RxYu50E7yxx Documenting the life of Dale Evans, wife of Roy Rogers, "King of the Cowboys", this movie-short documents the tough road Dale travelled behind the scenes of her equally illustrious career. The documentary is very interesting as it shows a couple embracing children with special needs in a time... when most were shuttled off to group homes, and going out and advocating for adoption and children's rights throughout their lives. The only child of Roy and Dale, Robin, was born in 1950 with Down Syndrome, a new challenge for the couple. Rather than have the child committed, as was the norm of the times, they raised her at home. Though she died at age 2 from complications of the mumps, Dale wrote a book about the experience, and that inspired parents across the country to embrace their children with disabilities.

For National Library Workers Day, we want to feature our very own Phyllis Morgan, library assistant at the Herrick Community Healthcare Library! Phyllis was born in NJ and raised in NY where she lived most of her life. She moved to San Diego in 2014 but has been in love with it since first visiting in 1986. She joined the Herrick Library part time in March of 2017, became full time in October of 2020 and loves her job! Her main tasks are creating the library’s monthly craft kits, documenting library procedures and processing books for circulation. Besides being an avid reader what she likes best about working at the Herrick Library is being able to provide understandable health information for our patrons. We thank Phyllis for her valuable contributions to the Herrick Library! #NLWD21
