Today was supposed to be the day of the 39th Annual HEAR Center Golf Tournament, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The HEAR Center Golf Committee greatly looks forward to the 40th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday June 7, 2021. We are planning a big celebration for this milestone year. All of us at HEAR Center want to make sure we can all safely have fun and be together at this event, and this was one of the deciding factors in cancelling this ye...ar's tournament. As you may know, the Golf Tournament is the mainstay of HEAR Center's fundraising efforts, and this cancellation means that HEAR Center will be without its much needed funds needed to operate and provide services. In lieu of supporting HEAR Center with your Golf Team in 2020, we hope that you will consider a Sponsorship; $600 is equal to the amount of a Tee Sponsor, and greatly appreciated. It is with great sadness we share the news that former Executive Director Josephine Wilson passed away peacefully at her home last week at the age of 82. Jo began her work at HEAR Center in 1979 and served until 2007 when she retired. Under her leadership, HEAR Center served countless children and adults. Jo remained an active member of HEAR Center often volunteering at events and at the annual Golf Tournament, which she loved. As a cherished member of the HEAR Center fa...mily, Jo led the way to make HEAR what it is today. Under her leadership, HEAR served countless children and adults making their lives better. In lieu of flowers, Jo's family has requested that donations be made to HEAR Center in her honor and memory. She is survived by her two daughters, DeAnn and Kim, five grandchildren, and 3 great grandsons. Services for Jo will be held on October 15th at 10am at the Glendale Forest Lawn. We thank Jo for her many years of service. She will be greatly missed.

#Backtoschool looks a little different this year! As parents and students gear up for virtual learning, many have questions about how to best support education while at home. Here are a few tips from our Audiology Extern, Seanna: 1. Identify a quiet space in the house for schoolwork. An ideal spot for learning will have low background noise (no TV, music or other distractors), good lighting, and a strong internet connection. 2. Optimize listening and sound quality. Ev...eryone is different and it may take a few days to figure out what works best for your student. Some students prefer to listen out-loud through speakers on their computer while wearing their hearing aids. Others would rather use headphones. Over-the-ear headphone can often be worn with hearing aids at the same time. Depending on your hearing loss, it might be preferable to remove the hearing aids for lessons and only use high-quality headphones. 3. Utilize technology. Many hearing aids have the ability to stream to computers or iPads. Please contact us if you have any questions about what devices are compatible with your student’s hearing aids. 4. Communicate with your teacher and school about your student’s needs. Whether that’s providing written notes before class or closed captioning on video lessons, your school should support your learning through appropriate accommodations.
