In our April resource packets we are celebrating National Poetry Month! We sent our participants a small journal and pen so they can write their own poetry, a Rumi poetry card for inspiration, and a note from June, our staff member and poet. We also included our April calendar. You can visit our website (healingwell.org) and view the updated calendar which features changes to our outdoor classes and 12 step groups.

He donates so much toward our Thursday produce bags for our neighbors Remember to shop your local farmers market! And visit the Heart of the City Farmers Market at the UN Plaza on a Wednesday or Sunday, too! #hothfm

A poem for our new leaders Inauguration Day. Congratulations Joe Biden and Kamala Harris!
On Monday, we would like to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The passage in the photo, has fierce words to live by as we continue the fight toward justice and equality for all people. While the Healing WELL will be closed for regular programming, we want to encourage community members to participate in MLK festivities in the Bay Area. There are several events at this link: https://tinyurl.com/y43z6u43 Additionally, you can join Sal at our regular Zoom link. https://us04web.zoom.us/j/388315067 from 11:00 - 12:00 and watch together a YouTube poetry jam where S.F. Poet Laureate Kim Shuck and special guests present an evening of poetry reading in celebration of African American literature, featuring works by Ishmael Reed, Staajabu, Devorah Major, Tureeda Mikell, Avotcja and Dr. Glenn Parris.

Join us Tuesday for Poetry at 10:15 am. The Zoom Link is https://us04web.zoom.us/j/38831506. The poem is HOARFROST by Ted Kooser. Two days of an icy prairie fog and every blade of grass, and twig, and branch, and every stretch of wire, barb, post and staple,... is a knot or a thread in a lace of the purest white. To walk is like finding your way through a wedding dress, the sky inside it cold and satiny; no past, no future, just the now all breathless. Then a red bird, like a pinprick, changes everything. Many thanks to Maureen (and her driver, Andrew) for making and delivering 135 bags of Chex mix that we added to our produce bags for our neighbors. They were a big hit!

Thanks to the Notre Dame Belmont High School community, for sharing hundreds of bags of supplies from their Sanitary Tsunami. We were able to give great gift bags to our neighbors, and share some with our community partner, YWAM, too. #NotreDameBelmonHighSchool #ywam #generosity

Join the poetry group this Tuesday with the Zoom Link: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/388315067 for the poem HOPE by Lisel Mueller. It hovers in dark corners before the lights are turned on, it shakes sleep from its eyes... and drops from mushroom gills, it explodes in the starry heads of dandelions turned sages, it sticks to the wings of green angels that sail from the tops of maples. It sprouts in each occluded eye of the many-eyed potato, it lives in each earthworm segment surviving cruelty, it is the motion that runs from the eyes to the tail of a dog, it is the mouth that inflates the lungs of the child that has just been born. It is the singular gift we cannot destroy in ourselves, the argument that refutes death, the genius that invents the future, all we know of God. It is the serum which makes us swear not to betray one another; it is in this poem, trying to speak.
With increasing food insecurity in the neighborhood, The San Francisco/Marin Food Bank now operates a food bank every Monday morning at 357 Ellis Street. Our Healing WELL team of Sal, Cindy and Mandy, volunteer each week. We’re grateful to join our community partners in this vital service. #sanfranciscomarinfoodbank #helpingourneighbors
While they’re not a peck of pickled peppers, they are perfect pears, and we’re grateful to Amalia and Bob for picking them off their tree so we can include them in our produce bags for the community!

Just a reminder about our amazing class with artists from the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival for a fun and interactive storytelling workshop. We believe that everyone has a story to tell that is as vital and important and Shakespeare’s stories. Each workshop we’ll practice improv acting and collaborative live storytelling to come up with our own stories inspired by the work of William Shakespeare. In her second short video, Jazzy talks about finding a spot to meditate. Enjoy, and join her today at 6:00 pm through the Zoom Link: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/388315067
