The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has announced nominations for this year's America's Transportation Awards. The Kauai Emergency Repairs Project, which we worked on for WSP, is a nominee. Our ecologists worked on biological surveys and postconstruction monitoring surveys, including bat monitoring for the #Hawaiianhoarybat at Hanalei and aquatic surveys for Wailua Bridge. Please go to https://americastransportationawards.org/ and vote for the Kauai Emergency Repairs Project!
Humboldt County-based principal Dr. Sharon Hendrix Kramer checking out the DOE AXYS Technologies Inc. buoy that will get deployed off the coast of Humboldt County to measure wind speed and other oceanographic data and seabirds using a thermal tracking instrument. This buoy is part of monitoring and other offshore wind efforts that Sharon and Dr. Scott Terrill will be discussing during a webinar hosted by Schatz Energy Research Center "Exploring the Feasibility of Offshore Wind Energy for the CA North Coast" Pacific Northwest National Laboratory - PNNL #offshorewind #seabirds #humboldtwind http://schatzcenter.org//session2agenda-offshorewindfeasib Redwood Coast Energy Authority

We are an animal-loving bunch at H. T. Harvey & Associates, not only of those in the wild but also of the ones who live with us at home. Sometimes when we're working from home our pets pitch in and (try to) give us a hand...which means lately they've been working a lot! Here are but a few of our menagerie. => Oaky helping out with restoration design => Trixie working on some botany plans in Hawaii => Dinkum checking out potential sites for offshore wind for Sharon Hendrix K...ramer => Rudder and Rhei doing some complex modeling => Asclepias picking out some plants for restoration => Larry_the_foul_child studying a map before a plant survey => Tor planning the next all staff meeting with @joy.debruyn.7 => @ochydog putting together this post with Laura Ck => Artemis the Bahia de L.A. Rosy Boa taking a break from GIS mapping => Kat, cat, and dog reviewing a contract => Zorra the Explorgi monitoring the writing of a land management plan => and the full time sheep herder Bart, working from home as usual. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we encourage you to hug a tree. Especially since so many of us are separated from the humans we'd like to hug! Here are some beauties from our project sites--reaching for the light and showing their strength. Clockwise from top left: California sycamore; Valley oak; California buckeye up close; California buckeye full.
We are excited to be participating in this offshore wind energy modeling and risk assessment work with Schatz Energy Research Center at Humboldt State University. through a grant from the California Energy Commission. http://schatzcenter.org/2020/04/seabird3dstudy/
