The emptiness still lingers from the news we all received Sunday but the words Kobe shared are not forgotten. A couple weeks ago Kobe walks in as our surprise g...uest at our @ridebackranch work retreat. Loved watching everybody become like kids as another 41 year old wonder-filled man-child comes to the front. Our fearless leader asked me earlier to do the interview. Not knowing details about Kobe’s life I had to do research of his life and read his book, The Mamba Mentality. I watched his Oscar winning animated short Dear Basketball. I walked away from the dive into his life to a deeper respect for not only his relentless preparation to achieve excellence but from his transition from being egotistical (his wording in our interview) to becoming more compassionate and empathetic to his teammates and especially with his family. In the one hour filmed interview (not able to show it yet) his vision for himself, life and his family clearly surfaced. Sophia Lin copiously wrote down some of his words from this interview to not only remember Kobe but to keep his legacy alive. That one day even though we were strangers I felt like he became a brother that’s come home. I was looking forward to deeper conversations and more creative collaborations.
