Stop telling your children that they have to do this or they should do that. Every time you are using the word should, you need to pause and think twice. Shoulds and have tos do more harm than good to your child’s self esteem. Children already know what they have to do, simply because -I’m 100% sure-you have told them so many times to do what you want them to do. If they’re not doing What they need to do, it means there is an underlying reason. Your job is to fin...d out what that underlying reason is and Not to keep repeating yourself That they should do this and they should do that. @azitasach #azitasach #azita_sach #childtherapist #familytherapist #reparenting #losangelesmoms #losangelesmom See more

My mother keeps giving my son candies/ ice creams when he visits her. He wants to go there all the time. But I don’t think it’s healthy for him. What should I do? This is the question that keeps coming up in my practice or whenever I talk to parents. My recommendation is to give value to emotional health as much as we give value to physical health. I’m not saying that giving candies or ice cream is a good practice. I’m not saying that at all. What I’m saying is that Our co...ncern for ice creams and candies should be in the context of our concern regarding our child’s emotional health. Basically, it should be in the context of what our child is receiving as emotional food. I asked this parent if she knows what kind of an emotional food her mother is providing her son? Is her mother nourishing her son’s emotional body with love, story telling, going to the park, hugging, listening, adoring his ways of being, and admiring his capabilities? Basically is she also giving him nutrient dense food for his soul? If she does, then we have to weigh out The pros and cons of each category -the emotional food in the context of physical food- and decide which one is most beneficial for our child And which one of we should be a little bit more lenient about. The answer is a loud and clear YES. Here is why A lot of parents understand that fighting in front of the children is harmful. They know that it scares their children. They know that it puts them in an anxious state. But what they don’t understand is that it creates long term sever impact on their children the same way that #PTSD creates impact in people. When children are witnessing their parents fighting, it’s as if they are in the war zone. There is no difference b...etween the psychological war zone and actual war. In parental fights, the psychology and sometimes the bodies of the spouses are the targets of the attacks. The damage on the children is even worse than the damage on the soldier. At least the soldier has a gun or a way of protecting himself. The child doesn’t have that either. The child is completely incapable of doing anything. That puts the child in the state of helplessness. And that is the hallmark of PTSD. So don’t ever forget that, when you are fighting with your spouse in front of your child, you are sending an unarmed, unskilled and totally naked and unprotected innocent kid- soldier to a war zone. Frankly, that is pure cruelty. Don’t you think so? . . #azitasach #azita_sach #ptsdawareness #ptsdsupport #ptsdrecovery #childtherapist #childmentalhealthmatters

Why does my child bite her nails? Your child could be biting her nails out of curiosity or boredom, to relieve stress, or simply because it’s become a habit. Your child may also bite her nails because she’s seen you or an older sibling doing it. Nail-biting is the most common of the many habits that children pick up. These include thumb-sucking, nose-picking, fiddling with hair, and tooth-grinding. Of these, nail-biting is the most likely to last into adulthood....Continue reading
