On a hot summer day on July 17, 2014, I was working on a film set in Brooklyn, NY. We were shooting a crucial scene from my short film Rites. The scene, which involved actors portraying NYPD cops storming into a Black barbershop with guns drawn, revolved around the reaction of our 4-year old actor and his father, the actor Stephen Hill.
