Last minute gift idea for those birders - or aspiring birders - on your list.

Fresno Audubon 21.11.2020

What is a 'bird irruption'? If you've never seen a #PineSiskin, this is your year. In the past month, the birds have invaded the United States in search of food, inundating backyard feeders across the country. They are starting to arrive in the Central Valley now. Without question, it's one of the biggest irruption years in recorded history for the finches. Get out the Nyjer Seed Feeders! Brown and heavily striped with a flash of bright yellow on their wings and tails, Pin...e Siskins are typically found in abundance across Canada, and to a lesser extent in the U.S., in northern states and higher elevations of the west and northeast, as well as parts of Mexico. This year, though, they are everywhere in-between. As with a handful of other northern species, Pine Siskins can irrupt southward in years when there is a shortage of food in their home range. This year, a meager supply of conifer seeds across Canada's boreal forest has caused the birds to push south in mind-boggling numbers. More photos and video throughout #SiskinWeek ! Statement from National Audubon Society on Election results. November 07, 2020 NEW YORK People are rising up to demand action on climate change and racial equity. And birds are telling us there is no time to lose: more than two-thirds of North American birds are threatened with extinction because of climate change. We need bold, equitable, and durable action on climate. That’s why Audubon’s 1.9 million members are helping to lead this movement. Rural and urban, progress...Continue reading

RARE BIRD ALERT Neotropic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus) (1) - Reported Nov 06, 2020 13:53 - Wahtoke Lake, Fresno, California... - Map: https://www.google.com/url - Checklist: https://www.google.com/url - Media: 2 Photos - Comments: "Believe is or not, I have yet AGAIN found the Neotropic Comoroant this time at Wahtoke lake. White V pattern on base of bill. Long tail lifted off the ground. Darker black than the more drab DCCO. Smaller than a DCCO slightly bigger maybe than a mallard. The yellow on the base of the bill did not extend to the eye. All back around the eye. First seen on the shore, then again later swimming with the other DCCO. Dad was able to get some good enough photos taken, will upload shortly. Most likely the same bird seen at two previous locations in the general area." See more
