Nothing like learning by doing!
Happy Spring, neighbors! Here’s a snippet from our first membership meeting in many months - good to see so many people working their plots, planning their crops and taking care of our common areas, inside and outside the fence. Speaking of summer gardening, we have a long waiting list, even after our plot renewals for 2021, which takes place every March. ... Our membership chair reports that despite several plot turnovers, our waiting list still has more than 20 families!! We hope that you will still garden with us in spirit. Even without an 8x10 raised bed, there are many ways to love and cultivate growing things. Some grow in containers, others do windowboxes. Even a window or tabletop can be transformed into a tiny garden. A crop of herbs and leafy greens (lettuce, kale or arugula) can last all summer. Folks are also welcome to join Eagle Rockdale as a volunteer. Just show up for our next scheduled work day: Sunday, April 18, 9-11 am. As the daylight stretches into evenings and the days warm up, we wish everyone a healthy, abundant growing season! Thank you for all you do to make the world a healthier, more connected place. #VernalEquinox #springishere #HappyGardening #WorkThatDirt #growyourown
Happy rainy Monday! LA Gardeners love rain - we also love good soil and the hard-won know-how that makes our gardens grow healthy and productive. Here are some great nuggets to follow; all but a few apply to our niche in Northeast LA.... FYI - Eagle Rock is Agricultural Zone 10 (with microclimates that vary from 10A to 10B).
A garden in Texas grows food for neighbors while it helps to heal a community. #ReachOneTeachOne
Collard greens are diverse, versatile and superfood healthy. They’re also easy to grow all year in LA. Until recently, these greens have been ignored by conventional American cooking. With all its tastiness and health benefits, the collard comeback is good for everyone.
Awesome action by our friends - it’s in NELA, too! Hey neighbors, please check it out!

Collards are great in winter gardens: easy to grow and VERY good at lowering cholesterol and fighting cancer! Plus, it’s a versatile veggie to cook with.
Very educational and timely, as we rework our garden soil for the cooler, wetter weather of winter. Caveat: to get your test results, you do have to give this school your email address.

Watering the communal greens. While gardener Ricardo labors on the tipsy hillside - 2 hours in! Tougher than me! #MomentofZen #MeditationinMotion #WaterisLife #100DayinLA
Gardening creates a place where food, peace and beauty grow. In these troubled times, city dwellers are turning to the Earth to find solace, connection and the best veggies ever tasted. Our waiting list has never been longer. We also see Eagle Rockers transforming yards into farms and wildlife sanctuaries. ... Welcome, all!
Another beautiful day is ending! Goodbye, sunshine! #Sunset
