This time last year over 200 people got their hands dirty to plant hundreds of edible trees and shrubs out at #YOVILLE Above you can see a local FRESNO MASTER GARDENER teaching people how to plant trees before our big planting day on Oct. 5th 2019. They were then able to help guide the 200 + volunteers in hands on learning and volunteering! What better way is there to learn about where our fruit comes from then by planting a fruit tree!? As we reflect on the last year we'd like to shout-out all the community gardeners, local leaders, and community orgs that have helped us provide these types of rich learning experiences. Interested in growing some of your own food? Garden plots are still available at Yo'Ville Community Garden and Farm, in Fresno, CA to anyone living in the 93706 zip code! Plots cost $3 a month and include water, drip line, access to shared tools, and fresh compost to get your plants growing strong.

Meet Amber Donat! Amber is the Yo’Ville Site Coordinator at Fresno Metro Ministry, and works closely with the Food To Share program, and the FCHIP Food Security Workgroup. Amber has been helping people garden all over the world in rural Thailand, Senegal, The Philippines, Nashville, Tennessee (where she got her Permaculture Design Certificate), and FRESNO! Yo'Ville's original site plan had about 14 garden plots, but they were MASSIVE!!! By re-configuring them we were able to create nearly 90 plots! This created space for way more gardeners BUT also a lot of new irrigation work! Thanks to all of our amazing gardeners, staff, and volunteers we were able to connect all of the plots to water!

Beneath all the veggie growth at #YoVille we've found signs of a growing soil food web! Mycologist Paul Stamet's said "Mycelium is Earth's natural internet." Sighting one in your garden is a sign that this fascinating network is beneath you as you enjoy your garden adding to the beautiful complexity of it all To learn more about fungi and mycology check out @mushroomsociety and @paulstamets

A Permaculture principle we love at Yo'Ville lately is, 'CREATIVELY USE & RESPOND TO CHANGE: Vision is not seeing things as they are, but as they will be.' Plans are nice at the start, but just like a #GARDEN they evolve and change as you #GROW Years of community design for Yo'Ville ended with this beautiful site map. As we slowly and surely implement it we're continually reminded of the value of #CHANGE and how we respond to it. Whether it's adding more beds to our community garden area, shifting the compost location, or adding a living jujubee fence we are learning how to flow with the changes to create a resilient community farm @ YoVille Community Garden & Farm

Meet Christopher DeLeon! Chris is the Program Manager at Fresno Metro Ministry for community gardens. In this role he leads the development at Yosemite Village Community Garden and Farm aka #YOVILLE For years his passion has been helping people garden in community here in Fresno, CA. You can catch him out at Yo'Ville digging trenches for irrigation, helping people get started on their gardening plot, or spreading good vibes with his great big smiles!
