We are ever grateful for our amazing partnership with Rotary Club of Westchester and thankful to be their recipient of Extreme Makeover project. They are an incredible force in supporting the transformation of our community garden to ADA compliance. Check out these pictures from our latest workday on Saturday. So much fun and such a sense of accomplishment. Let us know if you'd like to be a part of this effort. #ServiceAboveSelf #westchesterrotary #communitygarden #communitygardens #organicgardening #extrememakeover #neighborshelpingneighbors #communityspirit

Rotary Club of Westchester Extreme Makeover Project is under way! Clean up phase began today and continues Sunday 9am -4pm. All garden members welcomed and encouraged to assist alongside the Rotarians. We are removing huge chunks of urbanite (concrete) in the circular seating area and the boy scout garden. If garden members have those huge blocks of concrete in your plot, we will have the resources to help remove them. The spiral garden will get a new low retainer wall using ...the urbanite removed from the boy scout garden. The student garden will have the urbanite removed and either used in the spiral garden retaining wall, or the perennial garden retaining wall. The blueberry patch area along the south east fence designated as community plots A, B and C will be cleaned up and prepared for the future home of the blueberries. New plots will have durable edging material, so current concrete/pavers for plot edging will be recycled/repurposed.
Rotary Club of Westchester selected Emerson Avenue Community Garden as their extreme makeover project helping us to achieve ADA compliance and make our garden accessible to people of all abilities.

Congratulations to Wendy Mulero in Plot 36N for being awarded plot of the month for September. Wendy joined the garden this summer and has done an incredible job in a very short time. Look at that tromboncino (trombone squash), eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini, and so much more.
Congratulations to Bill Cox in plot #25. Bill was awarded plot of the month for August. He recently removed most of the summer crops but you can still see some lettuce, onions, root vegetables, and hot peppers in his plot.

Congrats to our WAM I Spy Art Treasure Hunt winner, Tom S! What will you do with the $500 cash prize? "Definitely put it back into Westchester - shop at The Book Jewel (first time in was on a detour from the Treasure Hunt) for sure, and dining out at some of Westchester's excellent restaurants." Thank you to WAM Block Party sponsor The Stephanie Younger Group for helping us to pick the winner. All eight finalists gathered in the The Emerson Avenue Community Garden for a so...cially distant, properly masked drawing. The I Spy Art Treasure Hunt was so much fun, you can expect to get another chance to tool around the neighborhood looking for the art yard signs at #wamblockparty2021! #wam2020art #wamblockparty2020
