We’re only starting to understand what the long-term ramifications of a COVID-19 infection are. And while many are focused on potential chronic health problems associated with the disease, this is one of the first studies to look at the possible long-term mental health problems. https://psychcentral.com//how-the-pandemic-is-taking-its-/ AND DON'T FORGET - I offer telephone sessions too! Trauma is often associated with a catastrophic event: a car accident, a war experience, child abuse, or being a victim of crime. However, symptoms of trauma, like depression, could be caused by repeated instances of emotional disregard. One effective way to ease depression is by releasing the enormous burden of our visceral rage. How is this done? Learn more: https://www.psychologytoday.com//when-depression-is-sympto... The year 2020 will go down in history as one of the most devastating in history; COVID-19 has changed the lives of so many. No matter where you live, dealing with the effects of economic and physical lockdowns in a community leads to multiple mental health challenges. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day - Depression and other risk factors can lead to an increase in thoughts about taking one's life. It's important to recognize the warning signs in yourself or a loved one, because many people do not talk about their thoughts of suicide in advance. Add to that - a stigma still exists around the topic of mental health. Let's make this day the day we talk to others and check-in with our friends & family who might be struggling. And if you or ...someone you know are having suicidal thoughts, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 for free and confidential support. It's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For crisis support in Spanish, call 888-628-9454. TrevorLifeline, a suicide prevention counseling service for the LGBTQ community, can be reached at 866-488-7386. AND DON'T FORGET - I offer telephone sessions too! As one of the very few concierge psychologists in the region, I provide in-home and telephonic sessions as well as emergency consultations to individuals and families who do not want or need typical in-office sessions on a weekly basis. Concierge psychology accounts for those special situations where a family needs a trusted confidante, or an individual needs support for sobriety, or a public figure cannot make office visits without raising eyebrows. Other situations include ...persons with special concerns regarding marital relationships or other highly stressful circumstances that call for attention above and beyond regular office hours. Concierge services are provided on a retainer-based fee system and as such are not billed to insurance. If you're interested in using my concierge services, please schedule an appointment today: 619-309-8612 AND DON'T FORGET - I offer telephone sessions too! There is growing evidence that writing is an excellent form of therapy for depression and anxiety. Writing therapeutically has shown some remarkable results, including boosting the immune system, but it seems to be most effective as a way to relieve stress and process difficult emotions, in part because it helps people to feel like they have regained control in a trying situation. While it’s always a good idea to speak to your health care provider if you are experiencing ne...gative emotions that are interfering with your day-to-day life for two weeks or more, writing or journaling can help you feel better whether you are on a course of treatment or looking after your own well-being. https://www.psychologytoday.com//the-write-prescription-de AND DON'T FORGET - I offer telephone sessions too! Memory formation is partly driven by a gene called NTRK2 that regulates cortisol signaling and may influence someone's risk of developing PTSD, according to a new study that examined why some trauma survivors are more likely to experience post-traumatic stress disorder than others. Of course, more research is needed, but these initial findings on the NTRK2-related pathogenesis of PTSD could ultimately lead to new treatments for those exposed to psychological trauma. https://...www.psychologytoday.com//cortisol-signaling-affect AND DON'T FORGET - I offer telephone sessions too! Before COVID-19, if you had to attend a relatively large meeting, class, or presentation, you didn’t necessarily have to show your face. You could sit in a corner away from public view, and no one would notice. COVID-19, among its many other changes to daily life, has forced people who prefer to stay out of the shadows into the front and center of the unforgiving screens required by work, school, or family gatherings. Even if you don’t have a speaking role in one of your vid...eochats, your face will appear just as large that of other people, given that there is no front or back row. When you are called on to speak, your face can now pop out to dominate the entire screen. What’s more, you can actually see your face while you talk, a situation that does not occur in most real-life settings. However, a recent study by University of Waterloo’s Mia Romano and colleagues (2020) provides insight into what COVID-19’s impact might be, and how people with SAD can navigate the demands of videochats. https://www.psychologytoday.com//people-social-anxiety-vid AND DON'T FORGET - I offer telephone sessions too! During the challenges of trying to cope with these new circumstances and emotions surrounding the quarantine & COVID-19, we often suffer from feelings of failure. When we are overwhelmed and down, our critical inner voices often flare up and have a lot to say. Because the situations are different than usual, our voice attacks are different from the ones we are used to. But there is hope, you're not alone! https://www.psychologytoday.com//20/dealing-today-s-trauma AND DON'T... FORGET - I offer telephone sessions too! Since the pandemic, anxiety levels have increased in many people: fear of going out, grocery shopping, taking care of your kids or managing work - anxiety when you watch the news or even walk past another person. You may have tried yoga or meditation but still ... you feel anxious. So what can you do? If you feel anxious or angry, you’ll notice that your breath is fast and shallow. When you are relaxed, you’ll notice that you breathe slow and deep. The interesting part is tha...t that when you change the way you breathe, you can change your emotions. It’s a two-way street. By changing your breath, you can change how you feel. https://www.psychologytoday.com//corona-got-you-anxious-br AND DON'T FORGET - I offer telephone sessions too!
