Our team gathered, safely, to enjoy this presentation recognizing the great work of the Dokken team amongst other... award winners. Dokken Engineering was proud to submit various projects for the 2020 Project of the Year Awards. Dokken Engineering is honored to receive the APWA Inland Empire Large Project of the Year 2020 award for the Limonite Interchange in Riverside County. The interchange is on Interstate 15 in Riverside County between Jurupa Valley and Eastvale. This important interchange is supporting the surrounding community of residents and businesses with a current and safe transportation method to access the interstate. Today our team enjoyed the virtual presentation by the APWA Inland Empire Board where they celebrated three award winning projects of the year. Here’s to the entire team, together delivering outstanding, award-winning projects that enhance the communities we live in, work in and frequent. Thank you to all for your efforts delivering this project!

The Dokken Engineering team is pleased to see this project progressing into the construction phase. Our design team worked with the Town of Apple Valley to improve the intersection at State Highway 18 and Apple Valley Road for an increased capacity at the intersection while also improving the alignments. This team effort included many of our in-house services including environmental, right of way, utility, hydraulics and hydrology among others. Kudos to all involved for a job well done and improving the transportation needs of the Apple Valley community.

The San Diego office is lucky to have some young engineering minds to support the team as interns. They are able to learn and absorb from the experienced staff while also contributing to projects, building their own skill set. We are happy to have each of you, and are thankful for your contributions to our team!

The team of employees working at Dokken Engineering is critical to the success of the firm. Without quality, capable and motivated staff, this company would not be functional. Here's to celebrating each of you and what you bring to the team. Together, as Dokken Engineering team members, we take projects from concept through construction. Eric E. is a proud graduate of Chico State University. He is currently an Associate Engineer in his eighth year with Dokken Engineering. If he could, Eric would have dinner with his late great-grandfathers, all four, and enjoy churipo and charanda in Mexico together.

Dokken's Environmental Planners, out in the field conducting nesting bird surveys as part of their contract with the City of Rancho Cordova Government, came across a rare find! A Sanford Arrowhead (Sagittaria sanfordii) is considered a rare plant species by the California Native Plant Society. Due to its rare nature and being fairly threatened, our environmental team made appropriate arrangements to protect this species with the hopes of continued health. Our team enjoyed finding this flower species in Rancho Cordova, CA.

Dokken Environmental Planners are collaborating with Myers and Sons Construction on the Mokelumne River Bridge for the seismic retrofit project along Interstate 5. Our team has been monitoring cliff swallow nesting that occurs on this bridge. Due to planned construction, our team provided biological support to the project site, assuring the swallows could continue to nest without interruption from the construction work. Result: success for all parties!

The environmental team at Dokken Engineering has been working some especially notable projects lately. Hickman Road Bridge over the Tuolumne River in Stanislaus County required biologists to complete a pre-construction survey for a Mexican free-tailed bat colony. Biologists successfully excluded approximately 4,000 bats who were living behind a utility line. The team’s mitigation plan will protect these bats during their day roosting, installing exclusion netting, to safely redirect their daytime roosting behaviors. This is not your typical office job -- we are in the field, helping projects stay on schedule with creative solutions and experienced remedies all the while keeping natural habitats in focus as a priority.

Construction Update: The Fifth Street Bridge over the Feather River is complete! The new 10-span CIP post-tensioned concrete girder bridge replaced an obsolete 2-lane bridge. Collaboration between multiple agencies including City of Yuba City, City of Marysville, counties of Sutter and Yuba was a testament to the professionalism of Dokken’s team during all stages of the project. One of only two points of connectivity over the Feather River between Yuba City and Marysville, Fi...fth Street Bridge is a key artery to those accessing the Yuba City and Marysville communities. Fast Facts: The new structure was required to clear the water surface elevation for the 200-year event and the US Army Corp of Engineers 1957 flood event Surrounding the construction site a Historic railroad, Veterans Memorial Park, and Riverfront Park Landmark; all of which required little to no impact during construction Wildlife, with their natural habitat in the waters, on land and in the air required environmental monitoring before and during construction Cultural resource site was discovered during construction, requiring open collaboration with the city, tribes, construction crews and, Dokken environmental staff A big thank you to all involved for their dedication to delivering a stellar final product!
