Police can deescalate armed, angry white protesters as they storm federal buildings. But a young Latinx man Sean Monterrosa on his knees is shot 5x by an officer in a squad car mistaking a hammer on his waistband for a weapon. Police claim the officer on paid leave reacted to a "perceived threat" after reports of a robbery. Family say he was surrendering. He was shot 5 times. Being a potential looter is not Sean Monterrosa’s story. This is a huge loss for our commu...nity. This is someone who wanted equity for the people in his community. This is in VALLEJO, CA -- In the community we reside in. This injustice needs to end, NOW. Latinx populationSo many countless times the Black community and other marginalized groups have come out to support us. It is OUR job to now support them. WE must do the work of looking at ourselves and addressing the ‘awkward’ but NECESSARY conversations around anti blackness in Latinx culture. We can donate money to Floyd’s memorial fund or to organizations like The NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Black Lives Matter, Communities United Against Police Brutality, and The Min...nesota Freedom Fund.
