This DICP friend is working on Wedgits! Our Wedgit set came with cards showing different towers that can be built with these great geometric blocks. Our friend moved back and forth across the gym to pick up the pieces for three Wedgit towers using a hippity hop (leg strength, endurance), a scooter board (core and neck extension, arm strength), and finally side-stepping with Thera-band around his legs (abduction). Why did we choose this activity? All because pumping a playgr...ound swing is difficult for this friend, and the skills he worked on are important for playground swing success. His occupational therapist knows how to choose fun, engaging activities to target the foundational skills he needs to reach his goals! . . . . . . #dicpot #wedgitblocks #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #bayareaparents #finemotorfun #grossmotorskills See more

Rumba's Famous...again! Thank you to The Mercury News for sharing Rumba's story. We love what she's doing for our kids! Today Rumba played balloon volleyball, helped a friend complete a balance obstacle course, and played hide and seek. Now she's snoozing in her bed after a hard day's work. https://www.mercurynews.com//rumba-is-dogged-in-supportin/

Rumba recommends doing holiday baking with your kids! . There are numerous sensory, motor, and communication opportunities involved in baking including tactile input, olfactory input (yummy smells), bilateral coordination, hand strengthening, grading force, sequencing, math, talking about the ingredients, making choices, and following directions. #Rumba to the rescue!

How cool is this?! This creative parent recreated our always popular bubble mountain into bubble pumpkin! Bonus points for including your kids in the preparation of that pumpkin for a huge dose of tactile input. Fill the pumpkin 1/3 to 1/2 full with water, add liquid soap, dish soap, or bubble liquid, find a long (preferably fun and twisty) straw, and BLOW! *Note - you'll probably want to try bubble pumpkin BEFORE carving, unless you want to see bubbles pouring out of a Jack-o-Lantern....On second thought....that sounds cool!

Our hands are little but they have BIG jobs! We use our hands in almost everything we do. We use them first thing in the morning to get ready for the day, to play with toys, and to complete school tasks. When we don’t develop our hands properly, it can impact how we learn, play, and develop. In this class DICP student intern Megan and DICP therapist Kirti will help participants develop skills such as strength, coordination, and dexterity necessary to perform a variety of ever...yday activities. Our sessions will start on Wednesday, November 4th, 2020, and go through November 25th, 2020 from 4:00-4:45 pm and are done via Zoom. All materials needed for the group are included within the price of the group and materials can be picked up at the DICP office. We HIGHLY recommend a parent/guardian be present in the sessions to support your child’s success in the activities. To register: https://forms.gle/CL5P3LQzRfohYyn67 $100 for 4 weeks, materials included! You do not have to be a DICP family to join!
