Body Positivity Starts With YOU LOVE your Body! To help celebrate National Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2019 here are 10 things to help you feel at peace with your body:... 1. Appreciate all of the amazing things your body can do your body is a gift. Celebrate all of the incredible things your body does for you every single day. 2. Keep a list of at least 5 things you like about yourself that have nothing to do with the way you look. Read your list every day. 3. Remind yourself true beauty is not simply skin deep. Carry yourself with a sense of openness, self-acceptance, and confidence that makes you truly beautiful. 4. Look at yourself as a whole person. When you see yourself in your mind or in a mirror, see yourself as a complete human being. 5. Surround yourself with positive people. Feeling good about your body becomes effortless when you are around others who are supportive. 6. Eliminate any voices in your head that tell you your body is not right or you are a bad person. Work to overpower those negative thoughts with positive ones. 7. Wear clothes that are comfortable and that make you feel good about your body. 8. Become a critical viewer of social media messages. Unfollow social media accounts that make you feel bad about yourself. 9. Do something kind for yourselfyou deserve it. Take a bubble bath, relax in the park, make time for a peaceful nap, do what makes you happy. 10. Use the time and energy that you might have spent worrying about food, calories, and your weight to do something to help others. If you or a loved one think you may have an eating disorder, know that you are not alone and help is available.

Resolve to Detox Your Social Circle The New Year is always a great opportunity to make a fresh start, but the real question is how to make that fresh start stick. One of the greatest hurdles we encounter when trying to make a change is the people we surround ourselves with. New Year’s Eve Fireworks and Veterans with PTSD Imagine sitting and watching a movie with your family and out of nowhere you hear a firework burst near your house. Most people would be startled, but many times as veterans we will hear that sound and we are pushing our family on the ground and covering them trying to protect them. It is not a fun experience for anyone. For some who have served in combat, the sound of fireworks sounds exactly like artillery fire. In fact, diffe...rent kinds of fireworks virtually simulate different types of weapons. Most of us associate fireworks displays on New Year’s Eve with parties and celebration. Many are surprised to learn of the extreme anguish that fireworks can cause for the veteran with PTSD. New Years Eve Coping Strategies for Veterans with PTSD: - Block out the noise by turning up the volume on the radio - Seek out a remote location which they hope will be out of range of the celebrations. - Attend a celebration at a hotel or large group location without fireworks. - Try to go to bed early and be asleep before Midnight. - Please do not resort to the numbing effect of alcohol or drugs. It will just make things worse. Now those same veterans, and countless others throughout the country, are no doubt preparing themselves for the upcoming New Year’s Eve festivities. So what can you do to help? If you know a veteran living in your neighborhood, inquire in advance of the holiday whether particular types of fireworks will cause him or her undue stress. Given the debt our society owes to military members who serve in dangerous war zones on our behalf, consider whether the fleeting pleasure of a few blasts of explosives is worth the potential hardship to nearby veterans with PTSD. With a little common courtesy, everyone can enjoy a Happy New Year.
